Smog

I’d forgotten the infamous “diesel” GM put in the Toronado and a whack of pickup trucks . Converted gas engine , what a really bad idea , but they held onto it for six or seven yrs .

I had an 84 Olds Toronado. They shared bore and stroke with the gas 5.7, but they were real diesel designs - just not well tested. The diesel 5.7 used strengthened cast iron, had a fully webbed block, forged crank and rods, diesel heads, cam and tough pre combustion chamber pistons. . They had 2 weak spots - stretchy head bolts and no water separators. In 1984 they were $22,000 cars, about the same price as a Corvette. I bought mine new in 85’ I paid $4200 because by then they were unsellable.

Mine came with a 100,000 mile warranty, blew 2 head gaskets in 20,000 miles. GM did some upgrades at the second rebuild, better head gaskets, stronger deadbolts and a water separator. I drove that trouble free for 100,000 miles after that.

I got about 6l/100 - that was better than my wife’s gas powered Audi 90.

This morning brought back memories of driving into Toronto from the west 50+ years ago and seeing the normal smog from 1970 technology.

There was a high point on the 401 where you could see the yellow fart hovering over the city.

It is really bad this morning arounf the airport and leaving Georgetown

You seem to have an allergy to the truth. You should look into seeing an Allergist/Immunologist about that.

A missed opportunity.

I looked at the picture of JT planting the tree and thought we could have had a two-for out of it if he was thrown into the hole first. The tree gets fertilizer and we're rid of an above ground pest.

We have the largest carbon capture/air purification system in the world. The elephant in the caucus room is there's no way to monetize it for Brookfield other than cutting it down. That leaves option B. Shutter the half completed 2 billion trees planted program to save (read: free up) money then send the surplus money to the most corrupt government in the EU (aka Ukraine) for a "haircut and a shave".

No golfers out this morning in Bath.
Probably afraid they will not be able to see where the ball landed.
Its starting to feel like I'm back in Alberta with the annual BC fire season!
The wind is starting to pick up from the N-NW and will blow the smoke down to New York City where they won't notice.

Yesterday was really yellow but smoke is much thicker today. It burns a little when you breathe. Near Haliburton.

Lighter and less smoky today in Mississauga. Still can smell the burn but not as bad as yesterday.

Seemed worse when I took the dog to the park a few minutes ago (Aldershot). You can almost taste it. The escarpment messes up the way air flows, though.
I guess it depends on each person and how they feel / taste it.

Yesterday, you could literally taste it as it was so yellow / dark. Today I can still feel it, but it's much less smoky when I walked the dog.

How long before our American neighbors deservedly come at us...again, over forest fire smoke?

Deservedly? If ever there was a case of unwarranted victim blaming. We can control the weather and wildfires about as much as they can. Maybe next time American oil refineries take a hit from Mother Nature, we blame them for the hike in gas prices instead of the weather?

Also, it's convenient for them to omit that Canada's air quality has been affected by American wildfires as well.

I believe hundreds more waterbombers and aircrew would make a difference against fires. Massive hurricanes and such, we`ll need the U.S. gov`t to control them. ;)

What did we do fifty years ago, that we no longer do to prevent forest fires?

Not bad in Erin/Acton. Little hazy. I'll take this over snow, any day!
