We are looking for a dynamic Digital Planner to enhance our website and web properties. This role will focus on content optimization, usability research, and aligning digital strategies with marketing objectives.

Core Needs:

  • Excellent web writing skills
  • Ability to review web analytics/content audits and recommend opportunities for content optimization and consolidation.
  • Familiarity with web publishing through a Drupal-based CMS
  • Understanding of digital content, SEO, accessibility, and usability best practices
  • Ability to work with a defined brand strategy and content pillars to align web content with our marketing and communications objectives.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Management and Optimization (50%)
    • Develop and optimize web content across the georgebrown.ca ecosystem.
    • Review web analytics and content audits to recommend optimization opportunities.
    • Utilize excellent web writing skills to ensure engaging and effective content.
  • Usability Research & Documentation (20%)
    • Conduct usability testing and focus groups.
    • Document UX strategies and develop user personas and journeys.
  • Marketing & Communications Initiatives (10%)
    • Support projects like the Program Viewbook and Convocation.
    • Align web content with brand strategy and content pillars.
  • Resource Management (20%)
    • Manage and mentor interns and the video producer.
    • Oversee recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
    • Handle the management of Gage.
Education and Experience:

  • 3-Year Diploma/Degree in Marketing, Communications, or Digital Experience.
  • Experience in content marketing, usability research, and web publishing.
Special Skills:

  • Superior leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication and digital copywriting abilities.
  • Familiarity with Drupal-based CMS and SEO best practices.
  • Understanding of accessibility and usability standards.
  • Familiarity with GBC is a plus.
Tools and Compliance:

  • Proficient in Siteimprove, Google Data Studio, and Google Analytics.
  • Ensure compliance with AODA, WCAG, CASL, and college policies.

So, I took a longer break and travelled to and across India for 4 months. It was fantastic. Now that I'm back, the job market isn't looking too promising from what I hear and my personal experience. In case anyone has leads, I'd appreciate it.

I have a Bachelors in Engineering but have worked mostly in project management (non-IT and a bit of IT) and sales, but I'm open. Cheers folks!

In the short-term, Purolator, FexEx and UPS are probably hiring everybody with a pulse and employees seem to be pretty happy. No stress at the end of the day, just clock out and enjoy your off-time. It's hard to have an engineering/PM job with that level of disconnection.

Have you set up your preferences in indeed?

I’m seeing a few postings for project management, account management and government positions in various roles, areas.

Thanks GG! Will look at these. Situation is not dire at present but a month from now it will be a different story.

I just found out my niece's boyfriend went to school to train as an electrician, but couldn't get an apprenticeship and is now just working construction. Seems like a waste to have gone through that training for nothing. Are electrician apprenticeships hard to get? I was under the impression that all trades were in demand.

Getting an apprenticeship can depend a lot on who you know. Lots of losers trying to get positions so many firms dont really look at randoms. As per the other similar thread, if you have to do to pre-apprenticeship school, you spend a lot of time and money and I'm not sure it improves the odds for most people. Most people that are going to make it can go straight in.

If they received a diploma from a school, I’d inquire if they have an alumni to check in with. Not all are created equal but, it’s worth a shot and check in and see. Graduated x year, have x hours and been doing carpentry for x long and want to leverage the education for what is was intended.


Student services can also help with openings/placements of former grads.

It’s not just about the diploma or degree, the faculty is there to help and many don’t utilize the services available.

If it was one of those trade schools that do a x weeks course with promises of getting a job, might be a waste of time.
