Some of you may know I was involved in a motorcycle Crash on Oct 5, 2025 in Calgary. ( I moved to Calgary July 1, 2025) (BTW This was my first real crash since I got back to riding July of 2006 and over 856,347.00 km / 532108. miles of riding since July 2006)
I broke my wrist, sprained both wrists and turned out I lost a job I had started a few days before the crash. As it turned out the company I just started working for got bought out by a large (American?) organization and the new owners not seeing me had one of their people take my job.

A friend told "One Broken Biker" (OBB) about my crash and they reached out to me providing me with emotional support, financial support and connection with law firms that specialized in Motorcycle crashes.

They are a non-profit organization working in Canada to help hurt riders.

I didn't know about them until I moved to Calgary and feel that all Canadian riders should know about them. I hope youe never need tham but nice to know they are there if you need them.

..Tom

What the heck!

Hope you`re doing okay under the circumstances.

Cast for my broken left wrist was off a couple of weeks ago, Both wrists have "Soft tissue damage" which I think means "Sprained". Doing physio exercises for the wrists every day. It hurts after the exercises but I guess that is what it takes to get better. Might be a while but 8 inches of snow this past Monday means no riding for a while anyway. I'm in a good state of mind, it could have been worse! I moved to Calgary to be an active Grandfather (Grandson born in July.) I'm glad to be alive and part of his life as he grows up.

Damn. I hadn't heard from you in a while and figured you were just out piling on the miles. Glad you here you are on the mend and thanks for the info about OBB.

You are welcome! I did get some nice riding in the mountains this summer. The mountains sure are scenic!

I hope that riders here will know abut OBB so that they or a rider friend are aware of OBB

Glad to hear you are on the mend. No one goes out west seems to come back. I remember you’d pile on the miles here while I whined about the traffic and weather. Being in your grandkid’s life is so awesome.
Wishing you a full recovery. Thanks for the links above.

Hey @V-Tom glad to hear you are alright. I meant to reach out as I saw your posts on Stromtropper about bike etc, and was wondering if you had shared your story, thanks for posting the info here.

Hey maybe it's a sign to come back to Ontario?

Just learned there are regional based OBB teams in Ontario based in Ottawa and in London (Ontario)

These are facebook links:

Ottawa: Log into Facebook

London: Log into Facebook

If I find non-facebook links I will post here.

I quit my job (In Toronto) and moved to Calgary because I wanted to be an active Grandfather. My grandson was born July 2025. As long as my daughter and her family live in Calgary my plan is to stay here.

Hope you are mending well.

I too relocated (50%) to Timmins to be an active grandfather to my first granddaughter born in May.

I've been training her - when she grabs my finger with her left hand she squeezes. With her right hand she twists.

I'm loving it.

Happy to hear so far so good in Calgary. I love it there. As an urban rider, i like the layout of their major roads.

Sorry to hear about your accident, hoping you make a full recovery. I see many posts from you on Strom Trooper but a first on here. Care to share what happened, perhaps we can learn something from it.

I'm a big proponent of "Smidsy" which has helped me avoid crashes with vehicles since I got back to riding on July of 2006 and have done 856,347.00km / 532,108 miles since then without any crashes.

The crash happend on October 5, 2025.) This crash left me no real way to avoid the crash. Smidsy wouldn't have helped. I was southbound on a road here in Calgary going about 40 kph (A pickup truck that was behind me said that was about the speed I and he were going. It was good that he witnessed it and confirmed the speeds because so many idiots on Sport Bikes here in Calgary have died riding at crazy speeds so everyone right away thinks excessive speed is a big factor in a crash. He wasn't involved, just witnessed it all.) There was a northbound Acura SUV heading north (I think behind a van or something else that blocked being able to see him.) He suddenly turned in front of me around 5 or 10 feet in front. I had no real ability to take any evasive maneuvers, just grabbed the (ABS) brakes but rode right into him. Bike and me fell to the left, my hands tried to protect me when I hit the pavement and the the bike landed on top of me and the pickup driver helped get my bike off me.(The pickup also said the guy just suddenly appeared in front of me.) The Acura driver walked by me as I (with help) was getting up. I asked it he saw me and he literally said "I WASN'T LOOKING") My left wrist had several bones broken and both my wrists had soft tissue damage (ie Sprains) Both wrists are still sore and if I move the wrong way they really hurt. I get physio twice a week and sometimes I think it makes things worse as the wrists still have pain but I think that is part of the healing process. (Apart from the wrist damage my gear totally protected me.

Anyway I am very fortunate, it could have been worse, I was in the hospital for about a week and healing at home for a few weeks after leaving the hospital, I had started a new job a few days before the crash When I went back to work it turned out the company had been sold and the new owners didn't have a place for me when I went back to work.

I hired a lawyer that specializes on motorcycle crashes but it may take up to two years before the case gets to court.
