Go Leafs Go!

No no all part of the plan.

They need to win 4-3 in game 7 to maximize MLSE profits.

You’ll see…
I think a better more profitable business model would be to secure the round and move on to the conference final where you can profit from 4 more games! Oh well at least the OILERS made it thru! Jets will probably be golfing with the leafs for the long weekend!

Well if the Leafs win in 7...and continue to the next level...PROFIT!

So you are suggesting that all the players, goalies, coaching staff are all in on this lose a game here and win a game there! Not likely, atheletes generally want to win. Thats all they want. And they want to win these rounds as quick as possible for recovery time or time to spend with their families. I could see it being possible in individual sports, but very difficult in team sports were there are so many people involved with different attitudes, morals and beliefs. How would you convince a goalie who is a devoted christian to throw a game for profits?

You don't need to convince everyone, just step on the scales. A few key players or even just part of the coaching staff and you can affect the odds.

I mean…what I said was a joke…

But yes, you don’t need everyone just a few key players or refs and it’s easy enough to sway a game.

Example…dirty head shots taking out key players.

If Stolarz returns to play for Game 6…could tip the scales.

So by throwing one game they would jeopardize the chance to move on? Why, for more money? Most of these guys get paid enough and some get paid not enough, they want to win. My kids played competitive hockey their entire lives, they want to win. Losing is not an option. Losing because someone says lose is not an option. If the team knows that they don't have a chance that is a different story. But if the higher ups said hey lose this game so the corporation makes more money, the players would say fuk off. Refs on the other hand could be bought and change out comes.

You don't tell the whole team. You pick your Trojan horses. Promise of money, a trade, a guaranteed non-trade or a thousand other things can be offered. Coach swaps some lines around "to try to improve things" and chemistry is lost and odds of winning go down. There has been an entire book written about the economics of the leafs and the summary was they are quite possibly worth more not-winning. Always dangle the carrot and people will continue to pay crazy prices as they want to be part of the year they finally win. Once that win is in hand, a lot of the money disappears as the first win is the valuable one.

This is what drives me nuts. Regardless of how bad they are...the stands are filled to the brim.

People were paying $200-300 for STANDING ROOM nosebleeds just to be part of the experience...insanity.

I for one am glad I'm cheap, as there's zero chance I would buy those tickets. Turn away for a second and the limited view you had is gone as someone slots in.

No thanks.
