What did you do in your garage today..?

On another topic, is there a Canadian equivalent to Rock Auto? Not sure why I will do repairs on my m/c take brake calipers apart etc but not on the car. The front brakes will need to be replaced soon. Mods please feel free to move if this is the wrong thread for this. Thanks
I have had excellent service/price from Partsavatar. I've sent them my caliper cores as well.

Sunday I started putting my spare Kat back together.
The gas tank has been off for about a year and a half, and pre-install scan found a fair bit a surface rust inside. A.I. tells me that soaking it in vinegar and salt (1 cup of salt per litre of vinegar) for a couple days will remove the rust. I'm skeptical since salt causes rust, but it assures me that it accelerates the rust on the surface to dissolve it, and won't cause any further damage as long as I rinse it well with water, then alcohol to evaporate the water.
Anyone tried, or heard of this before?

If you order by 2pm, stuff usually shows up next day.....

Wow, where have I been. Those 3 have great web sites and choices for my vehicle. Thanks!

I have ordered from autopartsway, parts avatar, the wrench monkey auto parts and maybe a few other canadian sites. They normally cost more than rock auto sadly. If they're close in price and have what I need, I try to buy from a canadian source. IIRC, my issues in the past have been many of the canadian sources had less stock. When looking for brake parts, I may add rear discs and pads and front pads to cart and then find out they are missing front brake discs. I don't want to order from two sites to get one job done.

Finished two new Garaga doors installed. About 15 years overdue.

The Wrench Monkey near the airport. I always pick up, and they can get parts in within an hour or two if in stock at their local suppliers.

Something looks out of place....
The FZR400 has finally gotten on the road but now overheats. I think that means I just need to ride faster

I have a love/hate on FZR400's. First, it was the bike I "had" to buy after my best friend wrote off my NS400R, then he got a Gamma for himself and it became an arms race. But really what did it was when I had an FZR600, I was thinking of swapping out my steel frame for the 400 aluminum frame, and T.O. Cycle Salvage had two. But someone else walked in while I had them leaned against the wall comparing which was in better condition, and he told Ralph "I'll take that one and the subframe". And of course, there was only one subframe, and I didn't want to get stuck trying to find one separately. I kept in touch with the guy, and went to his place where he showed me the finished project a week later. Everything apparently just swapped right over. I was so ******.

So a 600 engine in a 400 frame? I might need to find a 600.....

Not just the engine, everything. Swingarm, tank, bodywork, etc. Literally just swap out the frame and subframe. At least, that's what he said and what it looked like.

But yes, you can go the other way as well and drop a 600 motor into your frame. I think the later YZF600 motors also fit, but I'm going by my recollection of an ancient magazine article from before the days of the R6..

Installed an Android Auto / CarPlay display unit recently, picked up for cheap off of Amazon.
*snip*
Haven't put it through its paces beyond more than a quick test ride (stupid weather), so will report back when I have a better sense of how it works...

Just to follow on with this, I got a chance to test the Lamtto RC15 head unit more fully yesterday with a ride around Niagara (unbelievable weather, by the way, what a perfect day). I put together a route with OsmAnd, and despite complaining that it wanted a subscription to work with Android Auto, it actually worked great. Much better than expected, actually, with the reroute function making good decisions to get me back on track when I intentionally missed turns etc. OsmAnd route loading is super clunky to use, though, so I may also try the paid version of My Route to see if it's easier.

Otherwise, the screen worked really well. I made a stop in St Catharines to pick up a Mother's Day gift for the wife, and then used Google Maps to get me home direct but with the 'No Highways' option on. The only complaint I had is the map sometimes lags to rotate when making a turn, though I wonder if that's a product of keeping the phone vertical inside the breast pocket of my jacket so the magnetic compass can't work properly.

All in all, for $140, I couldn't be happier. Does everything I need it to and then some. Might look into how well it would work with a Carpe Iter controller for options that can't be done by voice, too.

As for other peripheral garage stuff, I finally ditched the hateful bar-end mirrors that came with the bike for some real mirrors, and installed an SW-Motech Legend saddlebag on the non-exhaust side. The saddlebag is well made, but getting it on and off is enough of a pain that I suspect it'll just stay on. I got the shoulder strap so I can use it like a messenger bag off the bike, but removing and reinstalling is kind of a pain, so I suspect that won't happen often...
