The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Here's a wtf I saw in Scarborough on Saturday:View attachment 73429
Unfortunately, all too common. I got nailed like that, pre-Covid, when someone made a right turn from the left lane, on Yonge northbound at Queen, at something like 5:00am. That's a "no turning" intersection. He also tried to take off until he saw that my car wasn't disabled, and I was following. Caught him at Shuter. He then tried to argue fault, until I pointed to my dashcam.

"Have awareness of the vehicles around you". Damn. That's a big ask. I suspect that a minority of drivers have any bleeping clue about what is around them.
If you ever get a chance to sit in the driver's seat of a 1961 Impala bubble top, compare the visibility of it to a modern SUV.

The Impala has very slender A pillars and rear pillars. The two-door hard top has no B pillars. There are no head rests or heavy tints. The exterior rear-view mirrors are small. It might have an AM radio but no phone, mobile office, cup holder or lunch counter.

Add to that, in 1961 there were no E-bikes, hover boards, e-scooters, Segways or cell phone texting pedestri-zombies.

I almost saw someone on one of those stupid single-wheelers get taken out, in SEATAC, when he jumped the gun on an advanced turn signal. Pity I didn't get it on my travel dashcam.

Do they have ABS or does slamming on the brakes equate to slamming one's face into the pavement?

The stoppie / endo relationship is largely dictated by the wheelbase. A unicycle has a wheelbase of zero.

I doubt they have anything of the sort. In fact I would be more than a little surprised if they have anything approaching brakes. It looked sort of like this:

This one was a bit too close to home. I left campus a couple of hours before this one.

For the record, the Mandela walkway is what Victoria Street becomes, in the area where it's closed to all but pedestrian traffic.

A little rage issue?
I'm sure that they calmed down while waiting for their taxi. I'm slightly surprised the cop didn't just pull their plates for their behaviour. Make them get a safety before driving again. If they ran a tinted cover after that experience, they deserve the attention they would get.

"You just gave me a ticket, so you can't give me another one!" is an actual mental issue that some people seem to have. The cop is right there. Don't be stupid, or you pay the moron tax.
Assuming the original speeding ticket had sufficient evidence and wasn't just a farce, cop could have given them that one too.

Can you combine tickets from multiple traffic stops in one court appearance? Conceivably, you could end up in court on multiple days for the multiple stops and that makes it harder to plead for some and drop others.

They typically try to consolidate tickets, so that it minimized the cost to the courts. OTOH the cop could wait a bit to submit the original ticket, which could well result in multiple court dates. I don't remember the maximum delay to charge, offhand, but I think it's 30 days.

A guy I worked with was out cruising with his GF snuggled up against him (55 Chevy, 350 SB, 4 speed) and he says he stopped at a 4 way but the cop said he didn't. If the cop has his book out and pen in hand, be polite and hope for the best. Calling him a lying AH doesn't help. Ticket #1.

Cop sees a broken taillight, so Mario gets ticket #2 for showing a white light at the rear of the car. Mario does the "If you weren't wearing that uniform" bit and cop notices "Passenger crowding driver's seat". Mario gets a hat trick.

On another occasion, slow learning Mario got a radar pull over on Weston Road. Angry, he tears away and gets another one a mile further down the road, #2 for the night. Absolutely fuming he rips away from that one and gets another hat trick.

He should have taken up hockey.

I generally refer to scenario #1 as "You want fries with that?" charges.
