Last Youtube Video of MaxWrist at Deals Gap

This is barely related but every time something like this comes up it makes me think of the video of the guy on a Triumph Sprint blowing nearly every single corner on the Dragon. Anybody remember where it is / got a link?

Edit: Found it! The Worst Run of the Tail of the Dragon Ever.

The fact that they moved him before even calling emergency services seems like a terrible idea to me.

DanDan The Fireman gives excellent reviews on CPR application in real life situations with analysis what can be done better. He uses all kind of accidents videos provided by the likes of MaxWrist. So everything has a purpose (and entertainment value as a bonus :))

Is that a piece of the bike stuck in the tree.. omg!

it's a footpeg.

I cannot believe what I just watched. I don't think I have seen that prolonged a stretch of bad riding. It's a tutorial of how not to ride.

Again, I didn't watch it. I strongly encourage people to stay put until they are competently assessed unless you need to escape danger (eg get out of live lanes if you don't have a heavy blocker vehicle, get away from fire, etc). Unfortunately, the natural reaction of many injured people and those around them is to get up and walk it off. Just stay down for f sakes, you can make small problems much bigger. No need to rush things. If you are somewhere safe, take the time to get assessed and then move around if you want. Even just laying there for a couple minutes until the adrenaline wears off helps you to figure out where there is pain.

He was wedged between two trees, face down . One guy pushed him up and off and another pulled. I think they wanted to get him laying flat on the ground - but if dude had any sort of serious injury to to his neck or back, I can’t imagine how much worse they could have made it.

As with every other one of his videos. I refuse to watch any of his videos. He's everything that is wrong with morons on crotch rockets. A menace to other users and a vocal and terrible ambassador for the sport. Dick. I don't want him to die but I would be happy if he never made another video again.

Damn, I watched it because I thought this was actually his last video.

If it helps, they really kept talking about "We really should call an ambulance" for quite a long time... without actually calling one. That was the second thing that stood out to me.

The first thing was, I noticed the left turn before the accident, the rider looked off. Then he takes a right turn just fine, then his next left turn is the one he goes down again.

Cold side of the tire, or ? Can one of you fastbois take a stab at it?

Watched a buddy a bouncing into the rhubarb a few years back. After my first aid training flew out the window and I was hoping he could "walk it off". First responders got him on the ground and supported his head/neck. Turns out two fractures in his neck.

Didn't watch the video but most riders have better skills turning right than they do left.

Tough call in a situation like this. Obviously you would want to make sure the person is breathing. What is the response time for paramedics or fire rescue at the gap? I don't think paramedics would attempt to move a patient in a situation like that, they would wait for fire to set up ropes, basket etc. They were pretty rough with the injured but he was stuck in there pretty good and it would not be easy to drag him up the embankment. A severe open fracture like a femur would most likely be fatal. Does the gap have its own dedicated response unit that would be both fire and paramedics similar to ski patrol?

I don't think so. Never saw anything like that when we've been there.

hmm, planning a trip to deals gap for summer 2024. maybe i should just take pictures at the homebase (dragon sculpture) and ride on the other roads around there...

There is no shortage of other good roads in the area, but it is also possible to run Deals Gap without encountering much stupidity. Best times are morning 7:00 - 10:00 (before the crowds arrive) and 4 pm until dusk (after the crowds leave), and weekdays are better than weekends. If you encounter others going really fast, they're probably locals who know the road well; let them go. If someone comes up behind you, pull onto one of the many paved pull-off areas and let them pass.

Even before getting to deals gap, its impressive seeing regular car drivers doing this for riders in the mountains.

There's a fully paved pull off every 30 meters on the gap without having to cross the center line. Leave your pride at home, ride your own ride, share the road, use the pull offs and you will be fine. The only prize at the end is an American coronary incident on a bun called a Pig Pen.

It's truly a spectacular road. Most cruisers will scrape floor boards on several of the corners trying to stay at speed limit which is around 50kph. But for those that prefer a more relaxing ride, then do the Blue Ridge instead.

It was a soggy morning and a bunch of us just sat and watched while the road dried up. So many people scraping pegs and floorboards.
