Seychelles brings back curbs despite vaccination success Seychelles brings back curbs despite vaccination success
Well that's interesting.

"A third of the active cases involved people who had had two vaccine doses, the country's news agency said."

I havent heard of significant outbreaks within vaccinated people. All previous indications are there should be few to no hospitilazations within that group. I guess this is a good test to see if that still holds up.

This is never going away, this virus will be around just like every other virus on the planet that has never been eliminated. In the history of mankind we have eliminated one virus, smallpox that is it. We started vaccinating for polio in the early 1950s and we are still dealing with polio to this day. Stupid people think it’s going to disappear, it’s not. Time to accept that people die ,people will continue to die and life has to start going on. End of story

... Sinopharm.

I'll just leave it at that.

Agreed, everyone needs to read into the bigger picture here. 60% of the population vaccinated with a vaccine with only 50% efficacy isn’t a great situation and doesn’t compare to where we’ll be.

Is he increasing the quarantine by an hour and adding five dollars to the fine for dodging the Q?
Didn't you see the news? Public health isn't even following up with all of the Q dodgers. Chief no-balls doesn't have the stones to enforce even the simplest of laws. He is literally all talk and no action in everything he touches.

I would hope so. The EU is planning to have their own vaccine-passport scheme ready to go in June, and I would be surprised if government folks are not preparing for that in return - hopefully by making it possible for Canadian citizens to obtain an EU vaccine-passport and also by granting entry to Canada for EU citizens with a vaccine-passport. Don't know how they'll deal with the US elephant in the room, but it's going to have to be dealt with somehow. Be nice if all these countries agreed upon a common system.

The EU scheme is supposedly going to be based on either vaccination or test results, your choice.

I concur. Whispers about of the bordering opening up late summer or early fall as well.

Once the numbers and science proves travel is once again safe with proper checks and balances….this is kinda inevitable. We can’t stay closed forever.

J&J is 66%. Other vaccines have lower efficacy against the variants (than the original strain) which are increasingly dominating the infection cases. The scenario won’t be the same elsewhere as is happening in the Seychelles but it could be similar. That’s disturbing.

We're not closed now. Didn't you see the pictures of Suzanne Rogers and a bunch of other Canadians giving Trumpy a hug a mar-a-logo last week?

I hope the US is available to travel in the fall. Wanted to take the motor home for a 2wk run around the Carolinas

It should not surprise anyone if we need a booster shot that has been tweaked to address the variants. The major vaccine manufacturers have already stated that possibility. If it turns out that we need an annual booster ... so be it.

This pandemic has really pulled the curtain back on the leadership. Populists from either the left or the right, federal or provincial, domestic or international have been shown to be bereft of decisive leadership when it’s really required. I’m really hoping this is the deathknell of populist politicians but Ms/Mr Jenner in California could prove me wrong.

Wow. Those were pretty substantial updates. All the authors went from declaring no possible conflicts to saying they were paid by or shareholders of drug companies. I have no problem with them getting paid but not disclosing is beyond fishy.

You think? Lol. It was always fishy. The list of drugs tainted by other companies producing a similar drug is very long. It should be one of the first things to think about in a scenario like this sadly. Tagamet vs Zantac for instance....everyone knows the name Zantac but Tagamet was the first on the scene until it’s market share was damaged by some unfounded rumours about stomach cancer started circulating. The rest is history..and very profitable history for the producers of Zantac.

Edit: Pfizer stands to make an extra $39 billion from the hesitancy over AZ.

In academia is such a misstep grounds for pulling tenure or does your ability to bring in money trump ethics?
