Dumbest thing you have done.

For anybody that remembers universal mag wheels , you'd turn an adapter plate and suddenly your GM wheel fit a ford. So i had a part time job in high school driving a tow truck, went up to Acton to pick up a piece of crap hotrod that had said mag wheels , coming down the hill past Speyside into Milton the left rear wheel came off. For anybody that watches Nascar, spinning matter gains weight so when a wheel comes of it will actually pass you. I see the wheel beside me in the mirror and try to knock it over with the car I'm towing. No dice, it goes into the oncoming lane and tags a Buick square in the grill.
The crap car I'm towing is now dragging on the axle on one side and between lines and rubber stuff , its on fire. I'd see enough TV to know they always blow up. (in reality they never really blow up but I'm 17) . I pull off into a farm field that had just been seeded since the gate was open and I was right there and start doing donuts with the tow car dragging so the dust will extinguish the fire, which it mostly does.
At that point along comes the OPP because they patroled #25 highway at the time, you could never find on of those guys when you needed one.
There is a Buick with a perfect V in the hood, 3 traumatized seniors, me doing donuts in a field with an F350 and said crap rod on the hook and a massive cloud now blocking vision in both directions.
Guy with the crap rod did not want to pay for the tow.

Iceland -2016

we made it a road trip and rented a little hatchback. First night there she wants to go see this geometric design hotel outside the capital. So we’re heading that way and following the GPS. I slow down as there is a sign that says Road Closed, but the sign is completely off the road like someone had decided the road was safe and moved the sign off. So I think; well, the snow has just melted in the low lands and we don’t appear to be going up, we could always just turn around.

We continue down the road and up ahead I see this patch of ice/snow. It’s maybe 2 car lengths and is the entire width of the road. So I think, well we’re only FWD but with enough momentum we should be fine. Give it a run and get stuck pretty much right in the middle. I can feel the wheels just spinning “ah hell.”

Jump out to take a peak under the car and a piece of ice is wedged under the axle of one wheel, the tire is barely touching the snow. So she jumps out and we start digging under the car, I even grab the jack to attack the ice. We’re at this for an hour, it’s getting dark and we’re pretty much freezing, made zero progress. We get back in the car and crank the heat and discuss the situation. My concern is she’s starting to look a little scared and we haven’t seen a single car come down that road either way. We can see cars travelling on different roads a few kms away. So I say F it. Call the rental place to send a tow truck.

Tow truck driver arrives in about a half hr looks at the mess and shakes his head. Hooks the rear axle and pulls the car down the road maybe 20ft. Unhooks and asks if I’m okay from here. I confirm and walk to his truck to pay. He asks how I want to pay and I said CC. He turns the machine over to me and it’s $450 USD!!!! FML.

The trip was all uphill from there.....turns out the road was closed. ??‍♂️

Same trip but the wife -

We arrive at the airport and hit the duty free for some supplies. She goes to pay with her shiny new TD aero visa and it says wrong password twice. 3rd try says if you get it wrong card is locked, so I say F it I’ll pay.

We get to the rental place and get the car all setup. Surprise!!! $3,000 euro hold on the CC that wasn’t in the fine print. Yeah okay whatever, she goes to pay. Same issue, cards about to be locked. Because the booking was in her name they won’t accept my credit card.

So with the time difference we have to wait about an hr for TD to open their phone lines, we wait and she calls the bank. Turns out she never put it in the TD Green Machine to set her pin. They out right refused to set it up over the phone, we tried to explain we were overseas and could confirm any amount of info. No sale.

Guy at the counter overhears us and comes over while we’re trying to figure out what to do. He says “this isn’t the first time I’ve seen this situation, let me help you.” Takes the machine, flips her CC around so the chip faces out, inserts it 3x. Machine then tells you to swipe, he swipes and then manually punches in the card #. Voila. Payment success.

Keep this in mind if you forget your pin!! ?

Most stupid mistake ever would be the following done in sequence:
  1. Break left clavicle (not stupid)
  2. Break up with ex (not stupid)
  3. Become emo (expected)
  4. Get on the bike and decide to go ramping (getting pretty stupid)
  5. Meet up with a friend (why did I bring a friend to watch me be stupid?)
  6. Continue ramping while raining (we all know asphalt is most slippery when rain first starts)
  7. Grab a fist full of throttle on corner exit because I wanted to pop a wheelie to "feel alive" (APEX OF STUPID)
Around $1000 of damage done, ego bruised horribly, said friend will never forget that day, and Fawaz brought me coffee then called me an idiot after =)

Something close to this would be paying to change oil on a GS500F for 2 years, but deciding to learn how to do it on a GSXR 750 (the former is much cheaper to experiment with) after lol

The other mistake is buying an RSV1000R; I want something that works, not something that works for 3 rides then ***** itself.

Ok ok ok.

Wanna learn how to wheelie. Rev it up and dump the clutch says buddy Dexter.....

Imanidiot

...soooooo..........did ya loop it? Cause that's a cool story at least lmao

I thought I was a big shot street racing, spent a fortune modding and gambling.. Had 5+ not at fault accidents, hospital for over a year, permanent disability, creditors stalking my friends coworker and family blah blah blah blah

Dumb arse me set myself back like 5-10 years and I lost out on a lot of opportunities

Biking community saved me ..

I feel like there should be a story about a pine cone somewhere in there

I've made a bunch of dumb moves over the years most of them are career related, a few are bike related, but Id say in retrospect the biggest dumb mistake of them all would be to get married, I dont think I was ready, still dont think I am

Do i tell people the time i threw my bike across the street in front of the police? hmmm..maybe not
Talking to a buddy about this thread And he reminded me about someone in our town bought a used CB900f project. Sitting needs loads. First thing they did was quick start and push start it. Throttle locked wide open no working brakes. Down the driveway across the street up the lawn and through the brick wall beside the door. Some how kill switch got turned in the accident. No insurance, license or ownership. He also reminded me about a couple of beat up rd350lc an apple orchard and some alcohol but I plead the fifth on this one. 1989 was a longtime ago.

Oh....I forgot about that.

Yeah that should be #1 then lol

I was putting in a ceiling fan at the top of the stairs.
I had cut a hole in the ceiling and was trying to jam a cross bar in to bolt the fan to.
The wife thought she should vacuum the carpet on the stairs, right under me. I remember telling her that was a bad idea.
Of course I lost hold of the cross bar, the 2x4 flies and cracks her on the head, good for a couple of stitches.
The wifee decides she'll drive herself to the hospital, as we had a sleeping baby in the other room. Bless her.
Wife gets to the hospital ER, where she is met by an old family friend that happens to be the head ER nurse. Wife explains what happened to the friend BUT all the other nurse in the room hears is "... and that's when Bitzz cracked me in the head with a 2x4...." and calls the police.
I answer the the door to two cops that immediately wrestle me to the ground and into the back of a squad car. I had no idea what was happening.
The wife gets home and nearly split the stitches in head open laughing so hard. It took about 20 minutes to get out of the squad car cuz the wife couldn't stop laughing long enough to explain what happened.

This is going to send all the misogynists (like me) out there into fits of rage.

Most recent: changing oil on my SUV in the driveway, using one of those plastic drain containers from Crappy Tire that holds 20 liters of used oil and has a drip tray with drain plug moulded onto the top side of it....forgot to take the drain plug out so the tray overflowed and now I have a nice oil stain on the driveway .

Sledding: wasn't feeling well but went out at night with the boys anyway. Sharp left on the trail, I go straight and I'm heading straight for a tree...I stupidly jump off, sled misses the tree, I hit the tree. I stand up and notice the sled was gone...it had gone down a 300 foot embankment and out onto a lake...patiently waiting there for me to jump back on, and off we went. How it never hit a tree on the way down is a miracle.

Worst mistake ever: buying a house with a woman who I never should have been with in the first place.

using the 4" angle grinder and noticed I've set my coat alight. start beating out the flames with the grinder before remembering to let go of the trigger

The smartest person I have ever met (not sarcastic, he was a full on genius) was using a 9" angle grinder with a cup wire wheel. We heard something that sounded wrong (noise stopped almost instantly). It had caught his sweat shirt, flipped so the cup was pointed at his ribs and wound up his shirt until it stalled the grinder. He just had light scratching on his chest. That could have been a mess.

That reminds me of using an angle grinder to cleanup some sloppy mortar off my brickwork. 100 degrees out, I’m in shorts and safety glasses, no shirt.

Wife says “you’re bleeding”, I look down and see about 50 broken wire bristles stuck like porcupine quills in my six pack.

That's funny.....One day a long time ago I was using a 4 inch grinder with a cutting wheel to shorten the bottom leaf on a trailer leaf spring, the wheel caught and ended up going into the side of my knee, I saw a spray of white stuff come off my knee and to this day I have a nice scar there.
