Some scientists think that the actual infection rate is ten times the reported in most cases, but how would you prove that?
You can do that with reasonable accuracy by testing a control group. Say for instance TTC drivers? You know how many were identified as infected before the testing, you test them all and see how many are actually infected. The trick is selecting an appropriate group for testing both in quantity and typical exposure to infection. I think TTC drivers would likely be slightly higher risk than the average person (and I'm not sure about union/ethical resistance to testing them all), but that was the best I could come up with now. You want a sample of thousands from a variety of areas (local hotspots and contact tracing may affect results if you choose a geographic group to sample).

This seriously feels like teachers intentionally trying to get people infected to shut down schools. The teacher that spread it at that school went in WITH symptoms. If they were asymptomatic I'd understand but seriously, that teacher should be punished for infecting people on purpose. So much for teachers caring about the kids...
I doubt they triggered an outbreak on purpose. I do think that they are an idiot and deserve a severe beatdown for going in with symptoms. Frig me. Every morning you are supposed to voluntarily complete an assessment for every child (and I would assume teacher) that tells you not to go if you have a risk factor until after you are symptom free and/or tested.

Isolation only works as long as you stay isolated.
Canadians were traveling the world over just like the americans and chinese and everybody else was, when it hit the fan.

Look at the death rates for realistic death by plague numbers, dead men don't lie.

What if they were hit with a criminal charge similar to DUI?

The similarity being they knew they were a dangerous to others and proceeded regardless. Actually the drunk isn't as bad. He could claim the drunk defense. That teacher could only claim an "I don't care about others" excuse.

Covid testing shouldn't take four hours, like it does here. What's being done to speed it up and get more throughput?

News reporter: "What are university's trying to do to prevent outbreaks"
What can they do when the infections were traced back to a house party  - how about send all the sick kids home from school so they can't play lacrosse and party hardy, what else can they do?

What a mess ?

Testing isn't going to cut it, you test positive when you are already infectious. They have identified local outbreaks and they still can't do much about addressing the problem other then to say 'go quarantine yourself for 2 weeks and come back when you feel better' :/ ya like that will totally work.

Over 400 cases in Ontario today. 273 of those were in TPO so the rest of the province is doing ok for now. 67% of cases under 40.

TPO?

Lets hope communities support the effort and that enforcement is... well enforcement.

I have a 3 millennial kids, they are all taking it seriously -- can't say that's the case for their friends -- my daughter has declined invitations to a few parties where 20+ gathered in small condos downtown. Last weekend one of my nieces was bragging that students got Downey Pier shutdown in Kingston on day 2 of frosh week - her view was she can't be expected to miss the 'once in a lifetime university experience' and that as long as she was away from home she wasn't a risk to her family.

Doug fords half assed efforts arent helping
"we will throw the book at them!"
"increased fines and reduced people at social gatherings!"

But *checks notes* restaurants, bars, strip clubs, malls, and schools not included.

The way I read it, by exempting commercial establishments, that also exempts most weddings which Douggie has been specifically ranting about.

The local sentiment against the students is ramping up. Bragging about getting things shut down that were actually for your benefit is something I don’t understand.

I think the new rules are fair, businesses are responsible for gathering limits and enforcing public health restrictions. The new TPO limits don't apply to events or gatherings held in staffed businesses and facilities, such as bars, restaurants, cinemas, convention centres or banquet halls, gyms, and recreational sporting or performing art events. If you rent a venue they do. Existing Stage 3 gathering rules, (100 outside, 50 inside, or max 30% of the room capacity) plus all public health and workplace safety measures for the facility stays in effect (i.e. staff in masks).

The number of guests permitted in a private gathering (home, office or rented venue):
  • outdoor gathering 25 people, indoor gathering 10 people
  • performers and staff do not count towards the gathering limits
  • indoor events cannot be combined with an outdoor event to increase gathering size
  • Masks or face coverings must be worn at all times except when eating.
  • No close mingling, no dancing (hired dance performers excepted)
