whats the purpose of some ppl using license plate hiders/flippers?

If you flip the plate on your way in (before the cameras) and on your way out (after the cameras) I don't see how they can assume you used the hwy for any length of time.
Unless you are stopped in the process of flipping or while caught for speeding will they only know who you are.

Now if you flipped on the way in only and not on the way out, you would be charged for the exit camera charge only. No kms would be added as they don't where you entered.
If this repeated itself for a long period of time, I can see how they would want to investigate it. But still not hard evidence.

This happened to to me in a car once. There was a note on my bill that I only got billed for the entrance as my plate was not read on the exit.



When I had my R6 and went to Seneca @ York (mid 2000's), a friend told me that he would flip his plate just before entrance and flip back past the cameras. Than repeat the process at the exit . ;) This way while riding on the hwy, it looks like the plate was in normal position.

With my current bike, and a greater need/chance of using the 407 my bike is not equipped with such device and I just pay the dues for my usage.
Good thing is that bikes do not get charged the video toll charge even thought you don't ride with a transponder.
It is assumed as if you have one.

I believe that regardless if you use it or not it is against the law to have any device on your bike that would either flip the plate of obstruct it in any way.

I was once told that cops would frequent some of the bike meets and while mingling with the riders, they would walk up to bikes and check if a flipper was installed. On a private parking lot. And would give out tickets for the infraction.

Actually I believe they bill you from the start of the 407 you only scan out and to the end of the 407 if you only scan in.

My incident happened last year so I think it is still accurate.

Unless they changed the rules.

I have to call them on another matter, so I will ask the question.

They were not smart enough to refrain from installing something highly illegal on their motorcycles,
'smart criminal' is an oxymoron, smart people don't resort to crime.

Nothing illegal for them to eyeball a bike in a lot. Technically you're not supposed to get the ticket until you're on a public road way. Since they would just follow you out, if they ticketed in the lot its really in the interest of time.

Doing it in the parking lot means there is an avenue for the ticket to be thrown out in court, if the person ticketed chooses to defend it. Still costs some aggravation and time on their part, and perhaps that's enough of a discouragement, at least in the beginning.

In the parking lot - Cop has plenty of time to run the plate number and see if there was a previous charge and dismissal for the same offence, and escalate if warranted ... cop has plenty of time to run the VIN and see if there are any issues, too ...

This. They were obviously given the green light years ago to harass sportbike riders based on plate location. They want it below the taillight and outwards a certain number of inches. In other words, stock. I watched them pull over most sportbikes at the Wasaga Beach Motorcycle Rally when it was going on...they had a line of fifteen or so pulled over inspecting plates. It was their answer to the plate flippers and guys that don't stop for police. That was two years ago and there are hardly any sportbikes left on the road now.

lol yes. The randoms at the meets are already asking when i'm going to tail tidy the XR. When i tell them i'm not the look of complete shock on their face is a riot.
 
Should add that I do not own a vehicle that is not modified...but you'll have to look harder.
