Ear plug recommendations?

Hard yellow foam cylinders or soft foam bullets? I can't stand the original 3M yellow cylinders for many of the reasons you state but the soft foam bullets take many seconds to expand and I have no issues. Correct, you can not reposition them once expanded, but you shouldn't need to. Push them all the way in on the first shot.
Not sure - they're disposable orange ones we have here at work that come 2 in a package. Look like post #37.

That style (although I haven't tried that brand) work well for me. If you're near barrie sometime, send me a PM and I can give you a few different kinds to try. Fit and comfort is very personal and buying 100 pairs to then find out you don't like them sucks.

These are the ones I hate.

I've never tried those yellow ones … thanks for the offer though (y) but I'm rarely up that far and the Earpeace ones I have are working ok for now.

EtyMotic ER4xr

Thoughts?
Etymotic used to stick out a long way. Wouldn't be my first choice in a helmet. Not sure if the new ones are shorter. Sound good though. I've got Shure SE530's that work well in a helmet, I just don't like wearing IEM's while riding.

Interesting observation I've had with my ear protection in the last few rides - the exhaust sounds better! Throatier. Stock exhaust btw.

My issue with the foam plugs is I find it difficult to get them into my ear properly in that you need to roll them up tight, reach around your head with 1 hand to pull up on your ear lobe, and then insert it with your opposite hand… all within about 1 sec before they start to unravel back to shape. And then good luck trying to push them in further into the ear canal. They just get smushed at the opening. Maybe I've got narrow ear canals.

The thing with the Earpeace/Nonoise type is they have a hard insert that goes through the middle of the plug that you can push down on and get it further into your ear. There are 2 or 3 different inserts depending on how much noise you want through them. I use the quietest version.

I've gotten a weird resonance on my left one at times if I go over bumps so still fine tuning my method of insertion.

A little lube (ie. saliva) either on the ear plug tip or the outer part of the ear canal goes a long way in helping the ear plug insertion. Also, try pulling the ear lobe out and directly away from your head.

Yep, doing both right now. Helps for sure.

Foam earplugs vary dramatically in size and quality. If you tell me the Howard Leighs don't work I'd be shocked.

Those are the ones I use. Whenever I post pics of my bike here anywhere you'll typically see a set tucked into my windshield bags. ;)

What I use as well. Drop by I'll give you a fresh bagged pair ...I buy them 200 at a time and they go for years ( I reuse them )

I get them from free from one of my customers - I have a few hundred of them on hand. Thanks though. ;)

I have a ton of different styles and such I've collected over the years. A polite "Do you mind if I take some of these" to a shipper receiver at many places yields a "sure, take as many as you want". ;)

We treat visiting drivers like gold, free tims cards, company swag, etc. A happy driver willing to wait another 20 minutes can be the difference between missing a shipment or not.

You're an exception, that's for sure. Many/most shippers treat drivers like animals. I mean, literally....you walk in the building and you're in a cage. No fan, nothing to drink, not allowed to use the bathrooms, and sometimes, not even a chair to sit when they tell you "Oh, it'll be an hour or two, and you can't sit in your truck, company rules"....

Well right now our welcome mat is somewhat reserved...but by and large we treat them well.

Earphones are tricky without a convertible helmet you sort of have to angle one ear in then the other but there are some low profile. Shure 215s are popular with riders as they sit flat once you rotate them into position.
Excellent durability and replacement cables are available.

Just wanted to followup with this thread.

I ordered these Thursday evening and Amazon pulled a quickie and they arrived yesterday. They haven't been able to deliver the new set of riding boots I ordered 3 weeks ago yet and were supposed to arrive in 3 days, but that's another story.

Anyhow, I Installed them on my Cardo this morning and did a 6 hour ride today.

Have to say they are AWESOME. I think I'm going to change the tips out from the foamies to the rubber ones instead as I'm finding the foam ones tough to get into my ears before they expand again (and they get gunked up quick) and see how that works.

I immediately had to turn the volume down on my audiobook and intercom to about 50% of what it was previously. Everything was crystal clear. Was finally able to listen to an audiobook read by a quiet narrator that was proving impossible before.

Super happy with the purchase.

Did you try assistants with them (google assistant, siri)? I guess no "hot word" support?

Flush fit earbuds. Cords dangle out of my helmet - place in ears, put helmet on.

Yes, I did - I often use Siri on my phone to read/send texts and make calls etc while riding, but had mixed results today - not sure if it's the headphones (as they DO have a microphone/control that is redundant) or just a Cardo thing as it's been weird before in the past, working perfectly on some rides and then refusing to work or trigger properly the next day. I'm also running the beta of iOS 14 which can (and often does) introduce bugs and oddities, so I'm going to reserve judgement on the exact cause of it not working today.
