Actually the Burketon Pit, is NOT an active mining operation. There has been NO active operations there for many, many, many years.

A gravel pit is an active mining operation and as such they are subject to stringent rules and regulations regarding access and perimeter safety measures are required.

I wish I did own a gravel or sand pit, but sadly I do not.

Similar scenario you describe has been happening north of Kingston and last rumours I heard, the pit operators are now having the local riders sign waivers for weekend use. I have not been there recently so I can not 100% confirm this to be true, but it's a great place to ride so I will look into it further some time in the future. (post-covid) (I have no idea if there is a cost or club involved)

This one?

... decommissioned pit operations don't maintain web sites.

Active pits do maintain an permit to extract aggregate resources. That pit doesnt appear to have one. The website you linked is just a parked page. I am sure if you call Gord, he will sell you what you want, it just wont be coming out of that hole. Maybe in the future it will be reactivated, but right now, nothing should be leaving.

 Why would I want to buy sand or gravel from a hundred miles away when I can buy it 5 miles away.
There is a limestone quarry on county rd#4 that was about to be decommissioned due to non-use. Guess what happened :/ they brought in just enough equipment to query some stone and haul it away so the query would not get shut down, then they packed up and left never to return again until they need the stone, or need to keep the quarry legal again. That's how they work, the quarry is still a quarry and they don't have to cover their mess and clean up the site until that status changes.

who operates that pit, Trials?

I believe you are in Tackaberry country?

ever get over to see his antiques?
incredible collection

Just heard today about somebody closer to 401 and access to a huge riding area including a sand pit (y)
I will check that one out very soon. We've been riding for 2 days here, then rebuilt a set of Beta forks.
Figured out how to do that now if anybody has problems getting the spring side apart, forget the video on the internet that one is :ROFLMAO:

There are 3 sand pits on the aptly named Pit Road that I can ride only 2k away, just past the blueberry mountain. which is also awesome riding on a trials bike, you guys, :ROFLMAO: you might be able to walk there if you are in good shape. That's all rock and swamp and bush with 3 beaver dam crossings, then you get to miles of bald rock and unlimited verticals.

My local guy sand and gravel delivery & septic system installer guy is Glen Matson in Arden (y) you can't beat his prices locally.
Thousand Islands Concrete out of Brockville are awesome for custom concrete they have a depot up near Kaladar

I used to vacation at Kennebec Lake as a kid, just across 7 along Henderson Rd, from Arden. Last time I was up there, there were still lots of cottage roads and fire roads to ride.

Pretty sure Trials knows the area.

As for snowmobile trails. The OFSC and member clubs ALL MUST carry liability insurance, same as the ATV clubs must. I am not sure what the limits are on OFSC, but ATV clubs carry $5 MILLION, then when they sign a landowner agreement the landowner is covered via the clubs insurance

This one?: 3198 - Burketon Property — Open Aggregates
It says: "Operation Status: Operating"

No, not that one. Trials, I already told you above. The Burketon pit is west of the site you've linked, on Boundary Rd.

I didn't name it, bud. Just showing you the location.

Regularly patrolled by police. Riding is not permitted, but many still do.

I don't like getting chased out of places, I'll stick with pit road, other then the locals, only hunters poachers and thieves go there.

If hooligans can trespass on private property with bikes can hunters trespass to shoot skeet?

At the same time?

Happens all the time.
but I think they are mostly using rifles and plastic bottle targets.

Haha. We were working on a new subdivision downrange of a skeet club. Strange sounding patchy rain while doing a site visit. Figured out it was raining shot and talked to the club. "No way that is from us. Shot doesnt go that far". I hope they enjoyed their last season because there is no way they were going to be allowed to keep operating with a subdivision there. I wouldnt be surprised if the developer went after the club for contamination if a report flagged it.
