Daily sports car?

Have you considered the BMW 128i? Non-turbo, straight six, RWD, beautiful car (IMO)...hell I'm still looking and I blew a chance at a great one a few weeks ago because I was stupid...once the minivan situation is resolved I'm buying a 128/135 or even a 228.

I get to drive lots of different stuff at work. It is very very hard to find a better option out there then a Mustang GT with performance pack as a fun, fast car that is easy to live with. It just does everything well (except the snow but its doable) I suggest you take one for a drive.

Camaro sucks. Kind of cool but you can't see out of them and tight inside. Mustang is twice the car.

Evo, yammie, and green have it right. Make me the 4th. I have a 2016 GT and LOVE it as well. The sound alone just makes me want to goose the throttle. Mine is not a daily though and it's stored for the winter. Gas will be a big $ too.

Stay with the Gen2 Coyote V8 (2015-2017) as the Gen3's removed the in-cylinder liner for a nikisil coating and they're having issues.
Is this the 'tick' issue?

Doesn't want BMW reliability..or lack there of.

Do people read OPs? lol

Saving grace is that it looks cooler (subjective) and handles better then the Stang.

Any particular reason for only wanting an RWD ?
Because that's what real sports cars are? lol.

They handle very differently.

Might have to agree to disagree. I don't know about magazine numbers or out right lap times because that stuff doesn't matter to me I just drive them on the street. Mustang feels lighter, stays flat, switches direction easily and is very neutral feeling. Camaro just feels lazy. Again this just from driving them on the street and going by feel not some in depth test.

*I haven't driven a 1LE option Camaro so that would probably change things a little. Still can't see myself being a big fan of the Camaro. Just isn't for me.

Is this the 'tick' issue?
Correct and some have 'rattle' issues too. I'm a member of Mustang6G.com - lots of worthwhile reading there for the OP if he's serious about the Mustang.

so has there been any documented fallout from this 'tick' or is it just a noise that people are concerned will lead to something?

Have driven the GT (love it, will probably buy one in a few years) but not the Camaro. Just basing this off of journalist reviews.

I've had the pleasure of driving a corvette ZR1 among other beasts, i think it ruined cars for me now lol.

Just curious. How is the reliability of the current gen Mustangs? My first car was a Mustang GT and it was the most unreliable car I ever had. Blew the transmission with only 50,000 km s on it. Rust started after 2 years. So many other minor issues kept me away from anything Ford ever since.

The Camaro is known to be a better handler than the Mustang almost across all generations. The current one is built on the GM Alpha platform, and any cars built on that platform are top of their class when it comes to handling. The Camaro also can get the 1LE package which tightens things up and takes it from good to great; you can check out any car and driver lightning lap reviews/times to see how these cars do, they hold their own against exotics when it comes to handling.

The issues with the Camaro are mostly packaging; they don't have good visibility (I'm tall, and didn't notice it as much, but it's a known issue), and the trunk opening is really small (even if your bag might fit IN the trunk, it might not get into the trunk). The engine and transmission packages are all solid, even the V6 engine sounds pretty good and you can get the 1LE package with it as well.

The Mustang for most people is the better choice, and I say that as a lifelong Camaro fan. They offer a wide range of packages for everyone, so you can get the base package and it makes a great GT car (hence the name) as it's pretty comfortable and has lots of power. If you want handling, they offer two grades of packages depending on how intense you want to go: they have had the Performance Pack 1 for quite a while now which gives you a bit better suspension and wheels, and now they've made the PP2 which is basically what the 1LE gives you in the Camaro, meaning very good lap times (it beat the Camaro in the last C&D Lightning Lap run I think).

The active exhaust package and mag-ride suspension on both models are god deals for those looking to get something that is both wild when they want and tame when they want.

To get something similar from any other manufacturer involves spending a lot more money, or making pretty big sacrifices. You could look at an Audi S5/RS5, but those are more money. An M4 is a lot more money and no faster.

The BRZ/FRS is pretty small, my head hits the roof, but it's a fun car to drive. It depends on what you're looking for.

Reading this reminded me of a comparison on youtube.

mind blown.

Golfs are not sports cars. Come on now.
They are not. But when you embarrass a sports car with one, it's a special kind of warm and fuzzy feeling. I drove a GTI for 5 years, and loved it.

I've worked in the auto industry for over 20 years so I've been fortunate to have driven many different cars. It's only my opinion but the GTI/Golf R is probably the best overall sporty car out there, for the price and how people actually use these cars daily. The current Gen is better than my 2013 model (I'm seriously considering getting another one) and is a viable alternative to a real sports car if you need one to "do it all".

Having said that and back to the topic of rwd...

Nissan Z, great sports car and I like that it's older, simpler with less electronics. It's a proven platform with great aftermarket support and reliability. Not very comfortable for everyday use though, but that could be my old age speaking.

Mustang/Camaro...big powerful American beasts, stupid fun but not the greatest reliability. I'm picky on details, fit/finish etc and as fun as those are the quality gives my OCD fits.

BRZ/86...I love driving those, visceral handling and very easy to control with the throttle. A bit slow and next to useless interior space but reliable, look great and are reasonably affordable.

BMWs are great and if you are ok with the higher cost of ownership (I'm not) would be the best IMO if you want a rwd sport car. I've never driven a 2 series but I've driven the 135 and it's a fantastic car, the 2 will be better I would think.

For the Mustangs, the 2015-2017 years are preferable currently for the better engine reliability then? Price wise the Horses in that year range with a v8 cost as much as a new 370z without too many KM's which is good to see. Would compare it back to back with the 370 likely.

I haven't considered the Vette's but I've seen enough reviews to know they can wipe or keep up with exotics that are at-least 3 times more expensive, definitely impressive. Would need to look into that but it may be out of my price range.

Don't know if I'd like a VW, not just the fwd but the turbo charged engine's make me warry of them. I do know that interior wise they're as great as the Audi's even, if I was looking at a fwd I'd also check the new Civic Type R's lol. The fake vent's on them are goddam lame though... Would not want a bmw just too many electronics in them today.

I will agree they are amazingly fun sporty cars. Good value for money and excellent value for the day to day driving a large majority of people actual perform. It's a really great choice for day to day practically then romp around with the 'entry level' sports cars.

Shame its FWD only. (obv. Golf R option but then imo, that's a whole different can of worms).

Sidenote: i do valet parking for a high end restaurant downtown as a side gig, lots and lots of really fun looking cars out there that once you actually sit behind the wheel you`re like..nope! Day job is automotive mfg. corporate slave.

I have a 2017 GT and no issues at all!

Yeah, as you said, GTI/Golf R are very very good cars. But if someone wants pure joy and emotions then I would personally look into other cars..
