Need a new helmet!

Got this today, this is my 2nd Bell helmet. Looking for a Transition visor. The one that goes with this is $289. Too rich for my blood.

Isle of Man at gp bikes

Deciding on whether to get the Bell Star race helmet or the shoei rf1200? Anybody have a good comparison between the two? I ride an upright bike.

Last year I bought Shoei GT Air, but have yet to go for a ride with it.

Do Shoei and Bell usually fit the same shape heads?

That's an Arai XD-4....sweet helmet indeed.

Ah thanks! I like the acrylic wind defectors on the visor... If I didn't get a Shoei RF1200 last year, i'd look into one of these... Though boy, they're pricey!

I can't compare the two, though I do have a RF1200 and Shoei Quest. the RF is a great helmet if it fits you, I had a SV650 Naked, mostly upright and wind deflection was ok, now on a CB500x, upright, and it's also ok. I would look at a Shoei Quest for upright, it's quieter and more suited for that, also fits much more comfortable and has a nice visor lock. It is heavier than the RF though, by a little.

what was the difference between the rf and the quest? I think the quest is discontinued now..

Actually can anybody do a comparison between the regular bell star and the bell race star? I watched some videos and said upgrading to the bell race is a very good idea in terms of improvement. However will they both be good for he street?

I bought the bell star recently. Haven't had a chance to ride with it though. But I'm already impressed by the build quality and super light weight material. Lots of vents too. I don't see why anyone would need a star race helmet for street riding. This seems very good already.

The GT Air is somewhat round, while the Bell Star is quite narrow. I've been jamming my head into Shoeis for years, but the Star fits my head way better than any of my Shoeis ever did.

This is handy: http://www.lidpicker.com/free-data/

The main functional difference between the regular Star and the Race Star is that the visor port is rotated upwards on the Race version. I bought the regular Star as a track helmet and I do notice that the visor port is too low when I am in full tuck and my chin is on the tank, so I have to rotate the helmet back on my head a bit to get decent visibility. Unless you want the fancier materials in the Race Star or you happen to always ride with your chin on the tank, the regular Star would be a better choice for street riding since the vents would be angled better for a non-tucked position.

The Shoei is a great fit for me. Medium. However, the Bell is tight. There are a few helmets I can order and they always fit. The Shoei is one of the them. Modular. The other is the Caberg, modular. Arai are way too uncomfortable. Like my exe`s give me a headache. Shark are also a good fit.

The Race is full-on carbon fiber. The Star is fiberglass & Kevlar. Race might be lighter with better quality materials.

thanks guys. After reading more, the bell star line seems like it is more of a narrow fit. I am more intermediate oval and the helmet i alreayd have right now is a narrow head helmet and it's uncomfortable that's why i want to switch.

I suggest that you try it on. Bell star is for intermediate oval heads, like mine. It fit me perfectly.

Maybe you're looking for oval?

The difference is in the venting, riding position, noise reduction, weight, and comfort. The quest is replaced by the RF-SR. I got a Quest last year when they went on sale, some may be on sale still. The Quest feels more comfortable, though it is larger in size outside too.

If you can go to a store and try some on, for the Shoei stuff, annoyingly esp the RF-1200 series a lot of people find them tight even if they are the right head size. Ordering a small set of cheek pads (31mm rather than stock 35mm) fixes this for 99% of people, its annoying as they cost alot and should come with a choice or standard. But do make a huge difference.
