Min wage increase

Barely a whisper is heard when billions of dollars in international aid goes missing and unaccounted for. Hillary Clintons foundation serves the corporate interests in haiti; and everyone knows her hands are dirty. These "contractors" paid by the international aid fund, did very well. But no one can account for the billions in international aid and where the money went. I also know a luxury hotel was built for visiting corporate business folks with this money; before Haiti even had safe drinking water restored-priorities? I also know Haiti's workers made more money before the arrival of the international corporate business elites.

Is this what you are referring to?

I had at one time a picture of an elderly woman making mud cakes with some old cooking oil to hold them together. She sold these to survive; yes, people in haiti eat mud pies for food. And no one knows where the billions went? Shame.
Open your consciousness folks, as it says in the bible, those put in debt - are those who are enslaved. Open your minds to the future....

Lol, page not found.

If you were referring to me, yes, there are individual testimonials on how these people were robbed.

The link is working for me - would you try again and let me know if it is still broken?
My response was more to those who read the posts- to enlighten and prod people to think; to open up their consciousness. The link is educational.

Sorry, maybe it's my phone.

People are generally too lazy to find the truth or they rather live in oblivion. In this day & age, just a quick google can give you tons of reading material.

...and if you google a particular phrase you can find a source that will validate your view no matter how insane it is. You need to use a little intelligence.

CBC reports that 82% of wealth gained went to 1% of the population last year. It does not matter if the government is liberal or conservative, the wealthy banks and corporations control and dictate to our government. Shame on those who think the minimum wage raise is somehow a problem.

Meanwhile, the same wealthy in debt third world countries in order to steal their resources...leaving them nothing but crumbs and debt.

Maybe some of those people are old money, who did nothing to earn what they have, sure. But alot of people have worked very hard to achieve what they have. Shame on anyone who thinks that the solution to poverty is to take from those with the drive to succeed and give it to those who don't. If people think stocking shelves, flipping burgers, or pouring coffee is a career, then they damn well better learn to budget.

Don't like minimum wage, stop exerting minimum effort! Simple AF

Quick question....any idea what the earning ratio between those at the top and the lowest earners in their organizations was 50 years ago, 30, 15, today? This is more for private corporations but if you look at the figures you’ll get the general idea. Many people have worked hard to get where they are....and many haven’t, so what? Those that have succeeded would not have done so without their workers.

I've seen many people earning minimum wage work harder than many others earning many times more. Also the unfortunate reality is that the current climate means that for many a minimum wage job, or collection of such jobs is all they have. Sweeping generalizations mean nothing.

If you want a solution to poverty I think it starts by changes at the top more than it does at the bottom.

"Let them eat Timbits".

Fixed it for you.

jc100 makes a point with starting at the top but how do you legislate ethics or morality. It could theoretically be done but it would have to be world wide at the same time and without warning.

So it was demonstrated years ago with the bump from 6.85 to 11, that cost of living rapidly increased, thousands of jobs dissolved, and absolutely nobody was better for it in the end. It's being re-demonstrated right now. And you mean to tell me there are still people out there still drinking the koolaid and thinking that walmart, macdonalds and TDL head office is going to absorb even one cent of this?

Ron White was right.

...
How many people feel that this is Canada and Canada will stand on guard for us as it was in the old days?
Holy have I been singing it wrong for all these years? I thought it was:
Oh, Canada, we stand on guard for thee
not:
Oh, Canada, you stand on guard for me

Maybe everyone should work for free and survive off tips and thank the gracious overlords for allowing us in their workplace and using their heat?

I failed to imply a mutual benefit situation. Keep your nose clean, pay your fair taxes, be fair with others and you shouldn't have to worry about freezing to death in the dark in Canada. Do you believe that is the future?

I don't but you're free to leave your money on the table.

We're getting drilled, bored and reamed by every government in the country to the point only a shell is left.

If everyone chipped in their share of the national debt giving the government a clean slate with which to build on how long would it be before we were up to our necks in debt again? No party buys votes with party money.

I have floated this before, with slightly different numbers, here it is again... A way better approach (call it push up economics).

We (as Canada) charge 20.5% tax on income between the personal deduction and below 41K, 15% is federal and 5.5% is provincial. We generally consider (but it is not hard and fast) the cut off for "poverty" at 36K--so we charge income tax to people that are below the poverty line/limit!

What should have been done... raise the personal deduction to 36K (from around 11-13K today) and stop taxing people below the poverty line. Technically this is a tax break for everyone (since we all pay 20.5% in this range). At 36K and above this is around a 4K+ tax break! At say a $13 min wage this would be a 2K+ tax break! In pocket at min wage this is about the same as a $1.15 raise.

IF we made only this change the gov (Prov and Fed combined) will lose $70B in tax revenue. So at some income level we will claw this back, say start at 80K and at 100K it is a total wash. Then add back in the 2% GST to the HST bringing it back to 15%. It does not entirely close the gap but it could be down to 40B at this point. Lowest incomes get a GST rebates just like today, GST is pass through for many/most businesses.

Economically a min wage increase puts more money into the economy because low income people tend to spend everything they have, give them more they spend more. The above does exactly this but not at the expense of the employer so no excuse for price increases...more money in the economy...GDP increase..eventually tax revenue increase.

This is the opposite of trickle down economics but should have the same desired outcome (desired because trickle down/supply side is proven not to work) and has a much better chance of working. Instead we are asking the businesses to pay more and taking 20.5% off the top. Food for thought...

Again.. Go start business... be the CEO... and then you can pay your employees what ever you want.

No, you can't. You have to pay them what they'll accept and no less than the law will allow.

Just because we live in a capitalist society doesn't mean the law of the jungle applies. We are a society first, I don't know what that means other than we look after each other. 'Capitalist' is merely a qualifier.

start a company .....be the CEO.... pay the employees whatever you want.

Oh wait, I have to pay them what I'm told..... but as CEO, lets talk moving production offshore. That's my job. You smart designers and engineers can stay, till India gets a bit better, but you guys putting tab A in slot B.... any body know the minimum wage in Zambia?
