WTF kijiji ad?

I had this ad come up today on my RSS feed and couldn't help but ask myself WTF... how did he do this to that wheel? Why wouldn't he take the tire off if he really wants to sell this? What purpose is a rim of a cast wheel that has had the hub broken out?

I thoroughly enjoy ads such as this.

He'd have to hit something pretty hard to do that to a rim. However, I can't spot a ding in the lip so it must have been side impact.

Could have also been catastrophic failure. Extremely uncommon but has happened before.

Wheel was shrekt in an accident and seller can't/won't seperate tire from the wheel. Have not seen it firsthand thankfully but have seen internet evidence of hub assembly disintegrating under the right circumstances in a crash

Look at all his other yards - this appears to be a scrapyard. It's very common for part pullers to hack the bejesus out of stuff to get it off the vehicle for sale - if the bike was a wreck and the forks were wrapped around the rim this sort of thing wouldn't surprise me at all.

I suspect if that tire could talk it would have a story to tell about a wreck.

how many times a season should I put clean air in my tires and which is the freshest air to get?

Fill them with liquid instead. They do it on farm tractors and it gives them better traction, and who wouldn't want more traction on their bikes?

Put fresh spring air in the spring. Depending on mileage you might need some summer air in there mid season, but definitely empty it and store it with autumn air. Winter air is just bad for it.

I prefer aluminum air. Not only is it lighter, it won't rust like ordinary air.

But the bigger question - what viscosity air?

And what brand is the bestest?

But seriously... people are still paying for nitrogen in their street tires.. so there's that.

Makes sense for the space shuttle.

For the average pavement princess pickup truck...well, there's that whole "a fool and their money" bit.

I'm guessing the tire would have to be removed from this rim with spoons... I can't think of any tire machines I've seen that don't use the hub. Looks like a Pilot Road too; looks a lot like the PR4 I have.

Haha I bought this tire. It was a Pilot Road 4 Trail that's pretty much new and I really like these Michelin's and need a new front tire soon. At least I won't worry about scratching the rims up getting that tire off, so I suppose I could just take it over to Rosey Toes:)

tire changer grabs the outer rim. Only need the hub to balance, so removing is easy enough.

Was the tire still inflated?

No it was deflated. It was pushed in from the side and the bead was already broken. There was sand and long strands of grass wedged in between the tire and rim at the bead. It was worth the $50 bux and the guy happened to live right beside my brothers which is where I was going anyways for Christmas Eve lunch.
