Weird. I have a 2012 S1000RR and have had none of those issues. Now, can you please explain the electronic suspension being a money pit? Nothing in the link you posted supports that. I am a member of that forum and all the guys on the HP4's and 15+ S1000RR's have nothing but positive things to say about the DDC.
i cant speak to that specific bike but from what ive read BMW bikes in general have the most issues but also have the highest customer satisfaction rating.
"Consumer Reports’ survey of our subscribers shows that the Japanese brands are significantly more reliable than most bikes from other regions—led in order by Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, and Kawasaki. Domestic brands Victory and Harley-*Davidson were midpack, and Triumph, Ducati, BMW, and Can-Am were the more trouble-prone brands." http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2015/05/motorcycle-reliability-and-owner-satisfaction/index.htm
with that being said, i would love a BMW s1000r, but if i was going for a liter bike ide be between the CBR1000RR, Ninja ZX10R and the R1.
ive always wanted a Kawi, and if i was buying this year that is probably what i would go with but new for 2017 Honda is rumored to have a redesigned 1000rr.
i do think that the R1 would have the easiest time being resold when the time comes though.
FZ10 will not be available in time for spring. Should be arriving to us in June/July at the earliest. We'll have an idea on pricing soon (April/May), then pre-orders can start...
the MT10 & BMW S1000r are both streetfighter type upright liter bikes which would be good for touring, kawi 1000 is a sport touring literbike....i can see why he has that ninja 1000 as a option.
the Z1000 would also be a better comparison to the MT10 and S1000r than the ninja 1000.
but the ZX14000 is just a massive bike, not really comparable to anything the OP has mentioned. its like throwing a busa in the mix.
google ZX14000 vs and see what pops up.

Value for the money - Ninja 1000. I think it's an extremely underrated bike. A lot of people don't know it exists even but that's poor marketing and name choice from Kawasaki. They have to stop calling every single bike they manufacture a Ninja + a number.
There are only two things that Ninja 1000 could use and neither is a deal breaker - a bit more range (larger fuel tank) and a centre stand.
Ninja 1000 may very well be a replacement for my 2000 VFR800 down the line. I think it is more in the spirit of what people wanted from Honda than the actual Honda product, last gen VFR (too few upgrades and too expensive).
I have a 2011 Ninja 1000 with 65,000 kms and am very happy with the bike. Change to a 55 profile rear, stronger rear spring with suspension set up by Accelerated Technologies and the thing handles really well. Love the mid-range and upper power bands. Ride position is great, but legs get a little cramped after a long ride (I have a 34" inseam). Adjustable wind screen really does make a difference.
A friend has a 2012 Z1000. Slightly more nimble ride, but definitely more tiring being exposed to the wind. I'm not crazy about the Z1000 dash either.
Down sides
- Insurance companies think its an SS. Had to negotiate for a week before they gave me a reasonable rate. Z1000, no problems. Just shows how little insurance companies know about bikes.
- Not great for longer 2-up touring, and bag capacity is limited to 1 tail box or the 2 side bags, not both. Structurally the rear is not designed to be loaded too much.
No experience with the Fazer. I've only ridden the S1000R in a follow-the-leader demo ride. Very nimble, light and responsive, but didn't have a chance to really explore its potential. But I have spent a couple hours on the XR. The thing loves to bounce off the rev limiter. Definitely more power in the top end, but I almost prefer the mid range of the Ninja. Brakes on the XR are much better than the Ninja.
If you're looking at the Ninja 1000, you should also consider the GSX-S1000F. This review puts the Ninja better for touring, but the Suzuki better for almost everything else.
They are all good machines in their own respect. You really can be the only judge. I am on my 3rd BMW and have had very little trouble with them in total. The worst was a new clutch on my '06 GS. After that the brand has been fantastic.
Get what moves you the most. Would check out all the demo rides in the spring, I am guessing after you ride each of the bikes you are interested in you will find it much easier to know what you like best.
The BMW is a great bike, but it's odd that you aren't considering a Tuono, it's the ultimate naked Street bike for just a little more money than the Japanese, much less than the German. It's definitely more biased towards sport though so maybe that's why. Go see what the stock at Corsa Mecchanica is like before you make any decisions. Insurance is decent I pay $1600.
