Ram 1500 Eco Diesel Review

I love my 2012 tdi jetta.. have 100 thousand on it now and zero problems. Turbo diesel cars just make much better city commuters, power band extremely useable around town and fuel economy is stellar. However that's a german car not a dodge.. Might be the European in me but I love diesels, I want to love this dodge for our next fleet vehicle but american cars scare me.

Its a VW engine......
Wrong! 3.0 litre EcoDiesel V6 is build by Italian company VM Motori, former affiliate of Fiat. Today, VM Motori is jointly owned by Chrysler/Fiat and GM.

I will be curious to see how the upcoming diesel works in the new Chevy/GM mid size twins. From what I have read this package will be able to tow 7700 lbs which is more than I will need for the hybrid trailer I want to snag in a year or two.

And that relates to the Ram Eco Diesel how?

Well... Until GM or Ford offer a small displacement diesel into either of their 1/2 ton outings (or Nissan puts one into their Titan) then this will be the only comparable to the Ram Eco Diesel.

Agreed. The economy of eco boost is all hype. I have a 2.0l eb in an escape and it's horrifying the mileage. Low 11s high 10s for mixed 50/50 driving. Not bad all highway (a run to Windsor say) maybe 9 or 9.5.

I have had a pb of high 11s in mostly city. That's pickup truck bad.

I couldnt imagine an edge or explorer with Eco boost.

Seems decent to me unless you drive like a grandmother. Every gas car I've owned is over 10.

Naw that sounds the same as my minivan with a 3.5L V6. Same hp, same towing capacity, but the Ecoboost has better torque.

My minivan is a 2002.

More to his point I think is that that's not at all the Escape's advertised fuel consumption.

I find most advertised fuel consumption figures seem completely out to lunch but I seem to use way more than most people on this forum. I track every fill up.

I had an 07 Edge AWD with the 3.5L.

Highway was 9.5 on a good day. Around town was 12-13.

I've got a 2015 Ram 1500 Big Horn with the EcoDiesel engine, stock gearing and 20" tires. Only just breaking it in, its got about 2000km on it and so far 10.9ltrs/100km is the average. This is with mostly city driving and some hwy, I'd say 80% city and 20% hwy, don't have exact calculations for the split though.

Good god I would kill for those fuel economy numbers. The 3.5 Ford EB engine is nice power wise but sucks on fuel.
