"The officer saw two motorcycles heading southbound on Parkside Drive that were speeding and attempted to stop the motorcycles by stepping out into the lane."
They gotta quit doing that. I missed hitting a cop with my car by INCHES. He was so shaken he ended up not writing me a ticket, lol. Do you think we're expecting to see random people jump out into the middle of our lane? No. When he jumped out I just thought "WTF is that guy thinking..." didn't even think to brake or swerve, I figured he would jump back onto the curb, but NOPE!

Stand at the side of the road and point us over, that's the only way you'll be safe. That being said, the motorcycle rider should have stopped after he hit the cop.

EDIT: Forgot to mention he was wearing all black, no hi-viz nothing.

Got that from a pay duty cop at a job site i was at last year after there was a visit from a MOL inspector. He told us about a memo that came down after a cop pulled over MOL inspector for a minor traffic offense. After the cop gave him a ticket and told him to be on his way the inspector told him it was his turn, pulled out his blue hard hard and ticket book and went to town.

Nice. I'd guess the whole jump-out-and-point policy (really, a flag will do--it works in racing, right?) is the illogical extension of being legally protected from the consequences of pretty much anything they do, then protected by the union/association if that somehow falls through. Unfortunately, the laws of physics often supersede traffic regulations.

I got a justice boner from reading this

That's just awesome.
F'ing guy must be laughing all year

They have named some of the bridges that pass over the 401 in memory to some of the OPP that have died while doing a traffic stop on the 401 and now I see the OPP stopped on the hard shoulder (where the OPP that have been killed doing their duty) with their radar guns revenue collecting.

They are fighting crime man

If you're cruising around Toronto and almost hit a Police officer at a radar, you might want to switch rides to the TTC.

How can you almost hit someone, in a 50 zone, when you can see the setup a mile away?
Stop daydreaming before you hurt someone.

I've been driving for over 40 years and never ever come close to a cop, whether he was pulling me over or not.

That is amazing. Oh man I wish I could have witnessed that! Hahaha.

I've been stopped in the car twice like this in the east end. Neither had high viz vests on. Wish I had known then.

Agreed, police need to be stopping all these 20km/h over speeding hooligans.

More like 30-40+ over. How can these people keep their licenses when they drive like this?

That's a awful and unsafe place to be stepping out into traffic to give out speeding tickets.

Yeah the guy in the rear was going real fast but who knows how fast the poor person in the white SUV was going. Is it worth the risk of getting people hurt to make your numbers? Absolutely not.

I've also come close to hitting a cop a few times. Actually the first time I got a speeding ticket I saw a guy walk out into the road, thought, "Wtf is this crazy guy doing?" (didn't notice it was a cop) and changed lanes to go around him before I realized he was a cop motioning for me to pull over.

In that vid at first I thought it was a crazy old hobo walking into traffic. Love how well his hi-viz fits...

I also looked this up on google maps. This is the transition point between Black Creek Drive and the 400. This is basically a controlled access highway and "enforcement" here is simply a cash grab; of course people will be speeding up early in anticipation of joining highway traffic.

Even better though is this pic from google maps:

WTF? How can a cruiser be allowed to occupy that place facing the wrong way? How did he safely attain this attitude? At some point he must have been driving the wrong way or maneuvering dangerously on a controlled-access highway not in pursuit of a bad guy but to set up a speed trap.

All because 20kph over at that place is "dangerous"...

And this is one of the reasons why I have absolutely no respect for these traffic enforcement cocksuckers.

Whether or not the COP was perfoming his duty in safe matter is one thing. Hitting someone and taking off is another. What happened to the moral obligation of the rider to see if the person he just hit required medical attention or not. Let the courts decide who is to blame in this case. This is no different than someone hitting a rider and taking off cause they were scared.

It's an 80 zone with lots of merging.

Lots of accidents there, and people buzzing through at a buck twenty then swerving over lanes to get onto the Eastbound.

If you travel further north on your map, you'll see that it's a 50 zone, not 100 later on.

The cruiser managed all that without hitting anybody. wow. He's in pursuit of stupid people, and they make it easy for him.

I've driven by there at 100 in the 80, and the officer didn't bat an eyelash.

Like you saw in the original video, something happens in front, and some people can't control their vehicles, even at 80 zone speeds.
They need to be encouraged to learn to drive better and more aware, before they get to the hundred zones, or taken off the road.

If this officer was so far onto the road that he could be hit by the motorcycle he was obviously being unsafe. But the point is that you don't take off after you're in an accident. Then it becomes a criminal investigation. No matter what, always stop. This rider might have been exonerated in court, now he's facing loss of license and jail time.
