Should I modify my new CB300F or modify a new different bike when I upgrade?

Dave Roper rides CBR250 as street bike. I'm curious about his choice of pipe. Anybody know?

I would agree heartly if we didnt get raped by insurance already....
If you buy a better bike you'll get raped by insurance. If you mod your bike to make it better you'll make it uninsurable. Either way, we get screwed by the insurance company.

Atleast he got to enjoy it. Do you buy used clothes too? I got some Canada Goose used for few yrs, wanna buy it?

How do clothes and bikes even relate?
In case you missed it, my comment was tongue in cheek. Sort of. I love when people "live in the now". I get to take advantage of that in the later.
Also, is that Goose XXL, bro?

Depends on the mod you want to do and the reason for it. I modded my bike (CBR250R) for better use as a commuter and tourer with hard luggage set up. Best money I ever spent. It was extremely handy and much easier to use than the soft luggage setups I see all around. Was it expensive? Yes...but the rack is up for sale, and the luggage I just installed with a new rack on the CB500F. Perfect!

As for cosmetic / performance upgrades....do what you feel is best but just be prepared to say bye bye to that money.

Excellent advice.
Also, why does everyone always say that they will "upgrade"? Some people are perfectly content with a 250/300.

My point still stand. The bike is for its rider to enjoy. You asssume its a waste of money and thats your opinion. Im sure you've met someone that told you riding is stupid too

And thats why they can mod it whatever they like to enjoy. Saying no dont do it because you will sell it in a yr is stupid. Glad we're on the same page

Dont be so dramatic will you? You're suggesting by mods he replace the 250 engine with a 500 ? Come on now

I think we were all along. On the same page, that is. No homo.

What IF he mods it and sells it in a year and, get this, he regrets the mods due to money lost? I think he was wise to ask. Why go in blind. If nothing else it's great fodder for discussion and partial butthurt for op and participants alike. #no homo

Because bikes are about machismo. Buy a Sportster, and HD guys start asking when you're buying a Dyna. Buy a 300, and you get dissed at Timmies by the 600 crowd. This is mostly driven by the industry, as profit margins increase on bigger engine bikes, so they like to push the model of buy bigger and bigger, moar power, etc., soforth.
In the past, they did this by making small engine bikes physically smaller. Now, they're business plan is all screwed up by insurance rates, and big bikes don't sell in decent numbers.

What no one has tried yet is to make a small engine bike with good components at a higher price. The industry is still stuck on the idea that small bikes should be cheap, with cheap components.

Eh... Its the American ego. Go over the pond and you will see ppl are perfect content with small bikes. I bet their riding skills are much better than us.

Europeans are insanely skilled on bikes. But, they also crash a lot and unlike here, they see this as their personal responsibility.

You will most likely be selling this bike in a year or two (maybe not but most end up wanting more power after a while) so as most said, upgrade the safety part like tires and get good gear but dont put too much money in the exhaust and cosmetic upgrades.
you wont get it back when you sell.

This. When I see a 250/300 on Kijiji all modded I just have to ask why?
