This is bizarre. He is a member of the Golden Helmets that ride those big-fairing Harleys.
They typically ride like this:

Cotton shirt, polyester pants, half face helmet, no gloves, riding a massively overweight bike with almost no lean capability. This hasn't changed since the 1950s.

This was even on a closed highway.

Tucker was travelling southbound on Highway 11 near Highway 400 with about 14 other OPP motorcycles when the accident happened.

The officers were participating in a motorcade training exercise at the time and the highway was closed as a result.

These guys need to modernize their equipment, even at low speeds, get knocked off a bike wearing next to nothing you're going to get really hurt. This seems to happen every summer.

Ray, there's another thread about this, and if you saw or read any of the coverage he was wearing his heavier jacket and vest underneath. His most serious injury is a lower leg injury - and that's where even when lightly dressed they have better protection. This isn't going to change what most of them wear.
 
The highway was closed as a result of the accident.

You really think a different type of bike would have had a better chance with the goose? Lol

And where what you want... Let me (or them.. Or anyone else) wear what they want.

It's still substandard to other police on bikes in other countries. The gear is only half the problem, the bikes are the other half. Any bike that news a tow truck to right it is a problem.
 
Why is gear a problem?

Why do you need a tow truck to right a Harley?

On a better bike, he could have braked (breaked) better, or swerved better, those bikes have a lean angle of something like 25 degrees, so if he had to swerve to avoid, the bike likely touched down.

Hey, I don't think we should even have helmet laws, but that people should take personal responsibility for their actions. So if people want to squid, cool, but they should have to pay for the skin grafts, reconstruction and disability costs, not everyone else.

In this case of this officer, likely a lifetime disability pension.

I saw five guys last night on the 403 wearing $800 helmets, $250 back armour, ...and t-shirts and shorts. Hard to take these fashionistas seriously.
 
A lady I worked with a number of years ago sadly lost her father in an accident with a goose. He was travelling on Appleby Line if I recall correctly and struck a goose, do not recall if it was in flight or on the ground, regardless he an his Goldwing lost. :(

What about the folks out there that hate motorcycles... Who also think people should take personal responsibility for their actions.... If you want to ride.. Cool... But you should pay for your own medical bills.

These are commercial vehicles and any damage done, even small minor damaged must have the cops involved and the vehicle towed to a mechanic shop to be appraised on the repair costs.

But to stand up 900lbs is a pretty tall order! Maybe 2-3 people could get it back up, but that is for sure a lot of weight!

Actually that is not as silly as sounds question, last week put on jeans that were too tight, dam almost dropped the bike when got on it, came so close to dropping.
I was on a slight angle with the concrete and almost dropped the bike,no used to the jeans being too tight and not flexible threw my balance off, but of course has not much to do with what wearing.

Huh? This seems to happen every summer? A highly trained professional opp motorcycle cop collides with a goose during a training exercise and this means they need to get better vehicles and wear protective gear?

Ummm......ok!


Btw, there are YouTube vids of how to stand a touring bike up fairly easily. A contour, goldwing or Beemer Are pretty heavy when equipped for duty too.

Relax.

I was headed up past Barrie on Wednesday and I was wondering why I saw so many OPP on motorcycles with 2 SUVs. Guess they've been practicing all week.
 
The goose was probably speeding.
