MyLast 2 meetings with gtam members for sale of items have been brutal. So i think we should start a feedback thread, to hold some people accountable atleast to a certain degree.

Contacted me about my icon jacket for sale for $75

He said he will "take the jacket" and he needs it for his MSF course

I told him i can meet him tomorrow in the city, i live in oshawa

He said he needs it for his MSF course today. If i can bring it to him

I decided i am going to be a nice guy and help this guy and drove from oshawa during my lunch to Seneca college at 404 and finch

I got there
He tried jacket
He offered me 50
I said no
He said 60
I said no
He said 70
I said no

(I said no out of principle)

He walked away, as he was walking away i told him dont ever do this to anyone again... tell a guy you will take a jacket and you need it and he drives out here and you low ball him.

He gave some attitude. I told him to drop the attitude or i will drop him where he stood. He left

So beware of this guy Khan450

A lot of people active in the for sale section are people that just registered to respond or post their ad. Very similar to Kijiji...

:lmao:

Had the same experience met a dummy when selling my visor, i told him 60$ firm and he agreed. Drove out to a mall in rush hour to meet him then he starts lowballing me. Starts crying about how he wasted his fuel, meanwhile he was in a work truck. I ended up giving it to him for 50 since i already wasted my time coming out there, shouldn't have but i really had no use for it.

Some people are clowns...

I no longer drive out to meet people anywhere, if im selling something and you want it i make em pick it up at a local timmies by my house.

Hey, really good idea!!

I know other forums have this.

Luckily I've had good experiences in the past with GTAM members. cbcanada - good to see you said no out of principle. Some people eh?

I just sold a bunch of stuff online, here and in Kijiji. I stopped using RedFlagDeals as the clientelle there always tried to lowball and waste my time. Unfortunately I have found the idiots who used to be on craigslist have now moved to Kijiji.

Lots of people suck, what can you do....

no GTAM experiences, but experiences from kijiji, most people think that they should be compensated for their time and effort in purchasing your stuff.

We are moving, so my wife wanted to have a garage sale to purge some items, it was enlightening

This is why I don't sell anything.....

Always price up, and then give a discount later - problem solved. Business 101. Everybody happy.

I know what you mean... but sometimes there can be exceptions.. When I had a garage sale in NZ before coming to Canada, I found out that on guy that kept coming to buy stuff and offering me very little $ for the items was on that container ship that Australia would not let into port (those bastard Aussies) and the New Zealand govt took 150 of them - See Tampa Affair on WikiPedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tampa_affair
**** man, I gave him and his family a ton of stuff. Seeing a ex-refugee kid gleam with pride inheriting your old soccer boots put tears in my eyes.

But like I said, that was an exception. Some people can be terribly cheap skates..

Not sure where you are located but try having a garage sale in Brampton. We had one just to get rid of stuff I was too lazy to take to Goodwill or the dump, so I didn't care what it sold for. It was fun...or at the very least interesting. :)

I've done reverse haggling when I get lowballers wasting my time it goes something like this:

Me "Ok so it's $50 firm as agreed"
Lowballer "How about I give you $30?"
Me "OK, $60 it is then"

It usually ends there..if not my selling price goes up another $10. I think of it as educating the public as to what a firm price is.

You needed it in a hurry and he accommodated you, what you did after that is disrespectful to say the least... I would have asked for 100.00 Firm as soon as you tried to low ball...

He rode out to you 404 & Finch from Oshawa. If you can't give him the asking price, you're a turd. I'm with cbcanada on this one. I would have asked for the $20 in gas and $10 for my time, because the buyer should be the one picking it up. This is why I don't sell anything to anyone unless they come to me, unless they pay for my gas and time (Get their home address in this case). Never haggle when someone is courteous to you. Welcome to GTAM, where most of us try to do things properly. $75 for a jacket and delivery is a steal.

I live by finch / islington, I told him id be at seneca and he was by kennedy / 401. I asked if we could meet at seneca because I was headed there. We did not agree on a price before meeting, nor did I want to make a blind offer over the phone. I dont believe $70 was a lowball offer.. he was asking $75 for it. he said no and put the jacket back in his car.. then I said "well thanks anyways" and left, theres two sides to this story and you can believe whoever you want.

On another note, I dont want a bad name on here... nor do I want to hold grudges and what not.

Thanks for the efforts CBC

Just for the record, I am very pleased with the item I bought from Frekeguy..lol Now still trying to get my hitch loose so I can put in a raised one to make trailer a bit more level..

He lowballed me, (he the seller agreed to a lower price).. It was a pleasant transaction.

Also bought a rain suit about 2 months ago from another member. NO haggling he was asking a fair price I paid it. in both cases I traveled to them.

I see the two sides and still agree that you tried to low ball someone that was doing you a favour, sorry man, but it is not the way most Canadians do business....

should be a rule...

If you ask the seller to come to you... you don't negotiate the price.

If you want to negotiate (or think you might), you have to go and see the seller.

He did a lot to accommodate your urgency, and took the time and MONEY to drive out from Oshawa, then you treat him like some guy at a garage sale.

You live in a society, and people like you should be ashamed and apologetic. Go away.
