Long term and reliable SS bikes

I didn't know that. It was an older one...when the Rs looked cartoony.

Have you ridden a bike with a slipper? Or are you judging me from the fact that I posted one mistake?

Qualifying the competence of the source.

Didnt sound like you made a mistake just once.

What a description, is that how you order parts too? "It look, it look a like a cartoon" (miss swan, mad tv)

how much should one spend in the spring of 2014 for the bikes below:
- 2009+ CBR600rr ABS
- 2008 - 2009 gsxr 600
- 2009 Ninja zx6r
- 2007 ducati 749 (is this thing easy to ride with dry clutch?)
- 2009 buell 1125 cr (any cons with drive shaft instead of chain?)

I would avoid these bikes. They can be two-wheeled mortgages.
Exactly why a street bike needs desmo valves and a dry clutch is only known in Bologna.

I agree. There's a reason Buell's were crushed.

Here are the results. Compared to the 600s we’ve used for the past 30 years; 12 million miles of track training; over 125,000 students; at 106 tracks around the world…our crash ratio has reduced by 400%. In real world numbers it looks like this: Last year we had 1.2 crashes per per school day average. This year so far, it’s down to a very convincing 0.3 per day.

What's a crash ratio? I know going from .3 to 1.2 would be a 400% increase but reducing from 1.2 to .3 is a 75% decrease. Is the 400% number more American hyperbole or is my math all messed up?

Anything BMW is going to last for ever with proper maintanance.

Its a pet peeve of mine when marketing folks use bad word math like that.

They break while being raced and have complex electronics. Not that other bikes don't break but they're far from bullet proof when ridden properly.

Um. he asked about LONG TERM BIKES. It's pretty hard
to beat BMW. I just unherited one with 270,000 on the clock. still going strong.
Any vehical will get broken. Deal with it.

Don't go for the 05/06 gsxr's... worst of the bunch.
GSXR's are a good bet. Plenty of parts... plenty of them for sale.. and they are the cheapest/most comfortable stock.

Having said that - any bike can be modified to personal taste. Go sit on all of them first.

If you are expecting Ninja 300 fuel mileage on a SS bike.. you're in for a surprise. You can keep it under 3000 rpm and still get ~220 kms a tank (~$22 to fill up). Especially if you get an aftermarket exhaust. Driving normally, my old (03) GSXR got 220 kms before the light came on, bone stock. Changed to a Yoshi slip on.. I was lucky if I got 185 kms.

No I definitely dont expect ninja 300 mileage on a SS. However, from the website, both cbrs and gixxers have used 2L extra than 300 for every 100 km. I dont know if they are honest or ninja 300 owners really revving the crap out of their bikes.

If only I could change the tail section of my 300, I would be extremely happy. Take a look at these 300s from Indonesia. Modified zx6r tail with R6 tail lamp. Looks sex!

I dont know how would a passenger sit on the back. But who cares, I like riding solo.

You remind me of me my first year
Never happy. Lol

A bit of advice... When you find a nice road to ride on, you won't care what your bike looks like as long as it puts a grin on your face.

Happy riding. Rubber side down.

I put over 50,000k on my K6 1000 and it was an excellent commuter/track/hooligan machine. Over that distance it never failed once.
24,000k on my K9 with zero issues.
My K7 hasn't let me down while being an excellent track machine either.

All are super easy to work on and easy to fnd parts for.

No but the thread is about SS bikes so naturally that would be the ONLY BMW I can think of that fits the bill. Heck buy a Toyota tercel, my buddy had one with 315,000km.
