I got my SOAR licence in 2009......went to lots of races to spectate and keep score for endurance, but didn't start racing myself until Aug 2010. I think I have raced in 17 race weekends so far .

2 back protectors -$300
1 Hyudai generator (lasted 1 season) $600
1 used Cloeman generator (lasted 1 hour) $125
Yamaha generator $1200
2 pop up canopies - $250
camper - $4000
tires (just guessing) - $3500
bike and generator fuel (just guessing) $2700
van fuel - $2000
camping stuff (chairs, bq, electric heater etc. guessing) $1000
---------------------------------------------------
...running tally $40,775 so far....ish.
.......I am sure I am forgetting tons of stuff, but roughly shows the huge costs involved. And I consider myself a frugal racer, who tries to get at least two race weekends out of a set of tires on my sprint bike, etc. I run pump gas only. Nothing fancy. No fancy Arai helmets etc.... Both sets of leathers bought on clearance. Canopies on sale at Canadian Tire for $100.....that kind of thing. I Use my work van as bike hauler an tow my used camper with it. Even groceries for a weekend at the track can be over $100, and beer/wine/liquor is also a discretionary cost that adds up. Add in GoPro cameras etc....
Can you do it cheaper? SUre. Tow 1 bike with a Civic. Race 1 class. Sleep in a tent. Eat bowls of ceral and peanut butter and jam sandwiches. Race on scrub tires. I guess I am somewhere in the middle.
