MPS, why haven't you quit yet? If you were my friend I would have taken you aside by now and calmly asked you to stop making yourself look Ike an idiot. No one mentioned cops doing the search, they were talking about security guards.
They can post whatever they want, trying to enforce that is another thing.
If they try to search you on the way in it can be done, if you don't agree you can refuse and they might as you to leave. On the way out however, and this is where most people would be searched, you don't have to let them.
You can simply walk away and tell them that unless you are being arrested you are leaving. Not a thing they can do. However they're counting on ignorance, and 99% of people don't know this.

if the cops can't do it
what makes you think some rent a cop can ?
or why should rent a cop be given this power ?

Perhaps you guys should meet up and test your theories at a few places.
Well I should have specified, but it is in fact on their entrance doors, maybe exit as well but I just noticed it going in.
i guess no one cares to read this
and then when you get pulled over for stupid **** like stunt driving and get ur car or bike impounded
you will come here to whine about it
END RANT
These aren't theories, they are facts.
I understand that, which kinda makes the sign useless. Its used as a deterrent and to scare the occasional person into "volunteering" or "consenting" to a search. However you refuse and there is nothing that can be done by them.
Next time you're at best buy give it a shot. When the guy at the front asks you for your receipt "Say no thanks and keep walking".
Or when that stupid scanner at the door starts beeping and the wal-mart greeter runs over to check your bags say "no thank you" and keep going.
They'll be startled and shocked that someone didn't follow their command, but thats as far as they will go.

Very true. At Costco, people line up and wait to show their receipt when leaving. I just avoid the line and go on through. Sure, they can potentially revoke youir membership as their membership policy states that the receipt/item checking process is agreed to, but they absolutely cannot legally stop you from leaving the store with your purchased goods.
Lol I wouldn't try that too much....some of the retiree employees at Costco have this John Wayne attitude and they'll chase you out. I had walked in and purchased one thing and this 70 year old guy tried chasing me out of the store, tripped and fell. Somehow people got the impression I hit him lol
