..so its another crappy day out and im looking at the internets dreaming about a sportbike for this season...noticed a new gsxr 750 can be had from newmarket suzuki for about $12k out the door...about the same price as a nice used 848...would appreciate any thoughts you all may have on either of these bikes.

fyi, a bit about me and my riding style, ive been riding for about 20 years on all kinds of japanese and italian sportbikes ...been out of biking for about 2 yrs . like to ride twisties , do not hang out at timmies.

thanks in advance for your advice/opinions !

The GSXR will probably get around a track a little quicker, but will have alot less soul and beauty, and exclusivity if you need that.
The 848 will cost more to own and maintain, but will also resell for more money at a later date.
Both are awesome bikes. Buy whichever makes you want to ride the most.
For me the GSXR would trump the Ducati....but I don't like underseat exhaust or single sided swingarms. I do however love the sound and feel of a V-twin.....but the extra cost and lack of comfort would put me out of the Ducati owner's group.
However, I can get the sound a feel of a V-Twin for 3 grand all day long from a used TL1000.....and since no one who isn't high on crack can use a modern sportbike anywhere the limits of it's performance on pblic roads, even a 20 yr old bike would suffice for me,LOL

GSXR if you're just looking to ride...fast.
848 if you're looking to be unique and for baller status...

My friend told me that most girls tend to ride the white 848's.
Is she wrong?

I went through a few Japanese bikes (GSXR600/1000 and so on) until I got my 1sr Ducati. Something very special about these bikes. Maintenance is not that bad either. At 15,000km with 0 problems, I replaced the belts and got the valves checked (all within specs) for $450.00. The bike is now close to 20,000km and still running great. Become my wife's bike and she is loving it.

PS: my wife's bike is a yellow 1098

I think your friend meant to say "most girls want to ride on the back of a white 848"

I own a 2010 GSXR750 and so far it has been good to me. Took it to 1 track day and it did its job so you will have no problems on the twisties.

For long trips they are comfortable and so far very reliable, mine has 45000km. You can find cheap parts for it

Not going to comment on the Duc because I never owned one and have no desire to neither.

My last comment is if you going to spend the money anyways, new will always be better to me, you never know what the previous owner did or didn't do to the bike

I'm not a sportbike rider, and was a new-ish rider at the time I demo'd an 848 Evo, so take this with a grain of salt.

The 848 was gorgeous, sounded great at every RPM (the demo bike was flat black and had Termignoni pipes), felt very narrow and agile and just had a surgical tool feel to it.

On the other hand, it was a complete torture rack and I was sore after a 30-minute test ride. And it had way, way more juice than any bike needs (although, for a 135hp middleweight bike, it wasn't too soft at low RPM).

If I won the lottery, I'd buy one... but I'd need at least one other bike.

That "soul" and "special feeling" that everyone keeps blabbing about with Ducatis is the v-twin engine.

750 because of this:

He just got a MV Agusta F3, are we supposed to stop riding MV? :-)

Seriously? Why hasn't he crashed on the 848 yet? I heard those those things are not newb friendly at all.

If it was me I would go for the gsxr 750 being new and the same price with tonnes of cheap aftermarket parts available. The Ducati is a nice bike for sure but "IMO" there is nothing like the sound of a inline four winding up. The ducs are cool looking and handle fantastic but just don't like the sound of a v-twin.... too harleyesque
No offense duc owners just my opinion..

Good luck in your decision

Love my 848. Not practical but puts a smile in my face.

Pros:
Looks good and very clean, you get what you pay for
Sound..that vtwin baby
I have the Corse version so it comes with a quickshifter, traction control and some other shizznit.
Brembo monobloc..ridiculous stopping power. But the gixxer comes with brembos but I don't know if it's monobloc

Cons:
More $$$
Parts $$$
it gets freakin hot at traffic. you might get away riding with shorts on a gixxer but not the duc she will burn you.
1 hr max for me any more if painful. but there's a few parts you can buy to fix that.
You ride a Duc, therefor you are labelled as a d*uchebag prick poser whatever. Then again you ride a gixxer you're labeled as a squid lol.

All I can think of for now. Hard to type my comp is acting up but probably more cons than pros. But keep in mind nobody buys a Duc for practicality.

Why not demo one and see for yourself instead of basing your opinion on a celebrity owning one which by the way has the money to buy whatever he wants. That 848 is chum change to the ferrari he owns.
