Got rear ended blah

Got rear ended today going into afternoon shift on the QEW west bound. Traffic was extremely slow but still got sent to the hospital since was feeling some back/neck pain. Bike got towed and now have to deal with all the insurance/repair crap.

Overall extremely lucky that I only have what seem very minor injuries.

Good to hear it wasn't worse as there have been lots of serious accidents recently. Bike can be fixed/replaced.

What was the excuse er I mean their explanation? Charges laid?

Geez sorry to hear that, man. Were you stopped or moving when it happened? How much damage on the bike do you figure?

Everything else can be dealt with when you are on your own two feet.

Sorry Dude. I hope the driver gets charged.
You should actually make sure that they do, for insurance purposes.

Heal quick and get back out.

That's really awful. Be careful about your injuries though. I was rear ended and I thought I was fine. I still have chronic pain 15 years later. Soft tissue damage can last forever and make your life miserable. Hope you are fine :)

Glad you're ok. Good idea to get checked out just in case.

Glad u r not seriously hurt but whiplash can be very painful and long lasting. Don't take it too lightly. Get well soon.

Thanks guys. Reported my injuries to the cop and doctor to be on the save side. Hopefully will heal up soon. Didn't talk to the guy who hit me and the cop didn't mention any charges at the hospital. But she (cop) did mention that his insurance will cover it if I'm not mistaken so I assume that puts him entirely at fault as should be.

There were few people who went out of their way to help me and I do appreciate that. One guy who was a "ski patrol" really helped and made sure I was okay until paramedics took over. Should buy him a beer one day if not dinner.

Was that the one on the QEW just west of Hurontario? My wife went through the spot eastbound and saw what she thought was a black bike down and a rider on the ground. I came through shortly after and there were still fire trucks on scene and a huge backup.

It was a blue bike but I was mostly in black. But yeah very close to Hurontario so doubt there was another guy down as well.

So did you see the guy coming in your side mirrors? Were you at a full stop? in neutral? I always stay a good distance from the car ahead and stay in gear until the car behind me comes to a stop and watch my side mirror out of a concern that I may not be seen and get rear ended, but I wonder if it ever happened whether I'd be able to get out of the way in time.

+1, I was taught to do the same too by much more experienced riders. Make it a habit so that you do it automatically even when fatigued.

Glad you were not seriously injured, Posofol. very important to go see a personal injury lawyer to have everything documented properly and to get advice on limitation periods. you never know if you suffer complications at some time in the future. no legit counsel will charge you for the meeting.

I have never seen any other road where the traffic stops as abruptly as the QEW. i realize it was slow when you got hit but i have been seen it stop on a dime so many times when traffic is "flowing" at more than 100km. I hate that road.

Glad to hear you only have minor injuries! I'm always so paranoid when I come to a stop in traffic.

Glad to hear a fellow patroller stopped to help out.

As Red mentioned. Make sure to report your injuries to the insurance company.
