Im looking into heated gear for my bike. Im thinking of shopping at the bike show and wanted to hear opinions on the different brands for quality and heat as well as the different connectors.
Im looking for a fully heated jacket ( body and sleeves ).
heated gloves
heated pants ( possibly but not sure yet )
Is it better to use the hook up directly to the battery or easier to use an adapter to a cigaret power plug on the bike so I can charge the GPS and Phone when not so cold ( I bought the power outlet yet )
thanks for any opinions or input. Brand names and mogel name/number would be appreciated

Hook up to the battery, you can use it for your battery tender as well.
I use gears, it was inexpensive, but the switchs are bulky, and prone to turn on or off as it hits the tankbag or my leg. I've rubber bands wrapped round it to prevent that, and it works well. Heated sleeves and collar I find very desireable as opposed to a vest only, but it bulks large for packing.
I've been looking at this stuff for a while but have never pulled the trigger. I was thinking to buying: gloves, jacket liner, pants liner, socks. Maybe that will generate enough heat to keep my head warm, but without heated gear, I really struggle to keep my head warm (which is why I am asking about the balaclava).

I have Gerbing full jacket, pants, gloves and socks purchased as a set off season on e-bay and a new Warm & Safe dual remote controller hard wired to the battery.
I'm just finishing 2 seasons of heated gear use and can tell you that you have to have a controller. Mine is usually at 30 - 60% power and I'd bake at 100% if it was a direct connect and I imagine turning the system on and off all the time would grow old pretty quick. In moderately cold weather I use the jacket and gloves. At about < 5c I add the socks and with JR pants and its liner and I'm toasty for the 4 - 5 hours rides I take. I've used the pants, but it gets complicated trying to balance feet and legs and then body & gloves on the 2 circuits and I get overheated which is unpleasant. I'd say keep your core warm and then feet and hands and your legs will be OK without heated pants.
I paid about $250 for the Gerbing gear and $150 for the controller and the extra wiring for all the hook up variations. Now I just connect the gloves to the jacket and then the jacket the controller and the socks are connected to the 2nd circuit via a Y extension that runs down legs between the JR pants and its liner. With this setup I can dial in just the right amount of heat to keep comfortable and then I fine tune it as it warms up during the day or as I move from back roads to highway where the wind chill factor is highter. Once you used heated gear you never go back and you definitiely regret not getting it sooner. I was uncomfortable for years at beginning and end of season, now I'm not and it's added 2 - 3 weeks of pleasurable riding both spring and fall.
Cost out the variations and if you find a good deal at the show then buy it. But for me I starting looking at Kijiji and e-bay around this time and it took about 2 months before my used gear popped up. The Warm & Safe I got after spending about 20 minutes on the phone one Saturday with the owner. After telling him up front I had purchased his competitors gear used on e-bay he took me through all the controller hook up variations and also gave me discount when I ordered the then newly released dual remote Heat Troller which has a wireless troller I zip tied to the top on my clutch master cylinder. Great service. His gear gets good reviews too if you're looking to buy new.
