Great Ride/S**t End

Stopped just outside Caledonia for a fill up after a great ride and when I came back to the bike from paying I found a huge puddle under the rad. Coolant all over the bottom of the engine and a little back from it so it had leaked for a bit, but judging by the amount on the ground not too long. No indication on the gauges that there was a problem. Pushed the bike out of the way and was able to have my Father Inlaw and his Brother Inlaw come from Brantford to bring the bike back home (after we manhandled the damn thing into the pickup in the pouring rain). I can see a slight imperfection/damage on some of the fins on the rad but would have expected more damage from a stone etc. Definately where it's leaking from though as I ran the bike for a few seconds while I eyeballed the rad. So I'm thinking I'm likely toast as to warranty, and doing a quick price search on radiators for my bike ( 2009 Kawi ER6N ) shows about $475 and up for a replacement. I've got to call someone to pick it up on Monday hopefully, and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for repair guy's in the Hamilton area? I'll be calling Sturgess Cycle first on the offchance that it's a warranty, but I'm thinking that my first riding season has just been screwed. Don't really have the dosh for such a pricey repair at the moment. :( :mad:
 
Why don't you take it to a rad place and see if they can actually fix it? If they can, it'll be dirt-cheap. Of course, the replacement should be stupid-easy.
 
Lowsided my bike at a track day. Rode for the rest of the day and on the way home, found a small hole in the rad, coolant all over the place. Took off the rad and took it to a rad place in mississauga and had it aluminum welded for $60. Rode the bike 2 more years and 11000km with no issues. When you call around, make sure someone there does aluminum welding. They even pressure tested the rad to 10X the working pressure with no leaks. Good luck. Matt
 
Better it was at the gas station than dripping out on the slab and blowing your motor.
I'd say great ride and lucky ending.

MacDoc you sound like my wife...... Afraid I'm more of a glass half full kind of guy. I know what your saying though. I've got some calls to make Monday a.m.
 
I saw that ebay add. Possibility. I sell aftermarket ag and industrial parts, and we sell a crapload of rads. I was shocked by the costs I was coming across, compared to the sort of radiators I'm used to selling. I'm going to call some of my customers and some local guys and see what kind of money we're looking at if they think it looks fixable.
 
you sure its not just the overflow?
