Anyone do a custom paint job?

I'm thinking of doing a custom paint job on my 600rr. Would like to know if anyone here does it and how much it would cost. I have a theme in mind and would need the painter to show me a rough draft or two before I give the go.

Thanks!

I hope that I can chime in here... I'm in a similar situation: looking to get the rear seat cowl of my '07 Ducati Monster 695 painted. Right now, its just clear-coated carbon fibre piece. But I would like to get it painted red to match the rest of my bike.

The piece itself it rather small, I'm just not sure where to go to get it painted to match exactly and not get raped in price... I can't see it taking more than a few passes of paint.

Any suggestions of GTA or even Durham region painters?

Paint Werx - this guy (Derek) was at the January show. Their (his and his partner's) work looked awesome. I got his card - 519-925-9703

You might be better off buying a new fairing kit with a design you like, and leaving your factory body in tact. It's worth quite a few bucks as is, but after being painted, not so much.

There are a bunch of sites like http://cbrfairings.com/ etc that sell entire replacement bodies, probably less than paying to have your painted. And you'd have 2 body sets, could sell the oem and end up way ahead.

It depends on what you all want done. If you take the body to a car paint shop and get the the whole thing done, with 3 layers of clear coat, you're looking at about 800-1000 bucks. Now, if you want custom airbrushing done with a scene, faces, flames etc, you're looking at closer to $2K (easily) and up for something very well done on the whole bike. Look at helmets - a good custom airbrush shop will charge $500+ to paint one.

It's not the size of the piece - it's the prep work that will cost you on something like this.
It's CF - why paint it? You'll ruin its' value. Sell it and get a regular replacement piece and you'll save money. Or, go to a vinyl shop and get the cowl wrapped so you can peel it any time you want.

I was thinking of buying plain white fairings (replacements) and having those painted. I'll keep the originals.

Close to 2k? Thanks. I'll get it done next year then :|

I got my bike painted from blue and black to a metallic black. Shines purple in sunlight! My uncle did it for free for me though. I would like to know the samething, I would just like some airbrushing dobe?

Anyone know the estimate cost for airbrushing a small skid lid?

A couple of guys I've heard good things about are Joe (chinto) and John (CBRJOHN).. Too bad that FiReSTaRT guy is a pure artist an doesn't do commercial work as that yellow-stinger camo was just out of this world

One of my favourite colours... almost bought my car in that colour... but something tempted me into getting red..

Depends on the paint and what you want done.... your looking at $100 for a can of paint... want metal flake or anything fancy add more... dont forget you need a can of clear... thats parts alone then add labour etc. He/she has to sand your parts down paint, water sand clear, maybe water sand again and clear again. Plus booth rental (unless its a shop)

That'll help you figure out the costs. Gilligan is a painter but I am not sure how much work hes willing to take in when done the harley gig, plus we are gonna work on my baby. But then I know who'll be doing the manual labour part of my job (moi).

Anybody know where I can get this Gilligan guy that everyone seems to recommend?

PM me your email or cell and I will give it to him when I get home or will text it to him. We will be away next week so email/contact will be limited but we'll be back the following weekend.
