Pity. There's not enough inexpensive lightweight standards available to the Canadian market. They would make a very good choice for new riders and even for experienced riders whose needs are primarily local commuting and short distance recreational riding, yet don't want to get into the scooter end of the market.

Here in Canada we have CBR 125's for sale and then it jumps to 600cc SS? Nothing in-between? Stupid! I would buy the bike in my OP pic in a jimeney if it came in a 500cc or 650cc.

Or you can go to Quebec and buy the Ninja 400R but I heard it sucks, it's the same weight and body as the 650R but with a smaller engine and it's exactly the same in price! Duhhhhh.

A 400 cc bike probably has the same number of parts as a 600 cc and the extra material consumed to manufacture is minimal. Since the 600 cc bike would be more popular the economics of mass production manufacturing would likely eliminate any price advantage the smaller bike might be thought to have.

Can't you read? I already mentioned half those bikes and I don't like 500cc's, I want a sport tourer with a 600cc or 650cc engine, now can you name me one available to me here in Canada? Noooope you can!

I rest my case, you honor.

Suzuki GSXF 650
Yamaha FZ6R
Honda CBF600
Kawasaki Ninja 650R
Kawasaki Versys

Though, I don't blame manufacturers for not bringing over more models. The market here is garbage for motorbikes compared to the states, and mostly an expensive hobby that's cherished for only 6-8 months if you're lucky. Cruisers are more at home here, straight lines for hundreds of KM's around population centers.

dont forget the street triple, SV650, DL650, SFV650 (Gladius), DRZ200, XT250, KLX250S.

Peg, I think you're lost and keep dragging yourself even deeper.

There are enough bikes between 125 and 600 (650) that are not SS.
Ninja 400 can be bought here in Ontario, so no need to go to Quebec! Buy the Ninja 650 then, if it's the same price as 400cc. Some may even classify both of these as sport-tourers, because of a more straight-up sitting position then any sports bike.

Where exactly did you mention half those bikes? :confused1:

1) Ok, first you say there are no bikes between 125 & 600(650) then you say you only want 500 or 650. Then why worry about anything below that?

2) You don't like 500s but you'd buy one in the OP? Sounds to me like you don't know what the hell you want!

3) You need at least one "sport tourer with a 600cc or 650cc engine" sold in Canada?
Ok, how about SV650?

The "small bike" shortage in Ontario is in the 300 to 500cc standard range. This is the type of bike and size that would be ideal for GTA between-city commuting, providing a comfortable upright riding position with decent handling, capable of two-up riding in a pinch and occasional distance touring, but still staying well within the affordable insurance realm. I know Suzuki has a 250cc retro single-thumper standard, but looking at the specs it doesn't seem to be up to anything more than minimal highway use.

Other than that, that's pretty much it for lightweight standards. The rest of the small bikes available in Ontario is pretty much just a motley collection of small dualsports, pint-size sportbikes, and anemic custom cruisers. And scooters.

The sv650? I don't want recycled hogwash, I want more selection, okay can you name me one motorcycle in Canada that's 600cc or 650cc exactly like the bike in my original thread pic? No you can't, that's what I'm complaining about, we have no such bike here in Canada.... unless you want to screw around with overpriced lemon bike companies like Ducati and Aprilia.
