Yup, the 2x or 3x credit for time served, prior to trial.

Yeah. My understanding is that it bascially replicates the effect of having the sentence handed down at the date of arrest.
Because generally a convict will serve 1/3rd of the sentence before being paroled.

So if you were in pre trial custody for 1 year and you got sentenced to 3. You would just walk home from the trial because thats the same time you would walk home if you were sentenced to 3 years the instant you were arrested.

Other lawyers may have a different take but thats what I thought it was supposed to be about.

It also addressed the overcrowded conditions, in lockups. It was typical to receive 2x credit, with 3x only applying in lockups with the worst conditions.
