In the market for a new bike, if the numbers work out, it will be one of these:

transalp
africa twin (base model)
Tracer 9

I Have a strong preference for hondas, but on paper the tracer 9 would be a really good fit as well, my only concern is reliability, the yamaha is japanese but its also full of huge amounts of electronic gizmos and toys and this is a bit concerning for long term ownership. Input from current/previous tracer owners is very welcome.

Im trying to be more financially responsible which is why im keeping certain other bikes off the list.

</3 What did you do to our beloved BP? You monster 😄

I was going to suggest a Multi V2, but my Ducati recommendations are probably getting a little tiresome by now.

I saw that you just came back from demoing a Versys 1000. Would that be the best bike for your passenger?

A couple of years ago, my wife sat on the pillion seat of the new Tracer 9 at one of the winter shows. She really liked the seat.

The big versys is excellent, but its a bit outside what im willing to spending 😲

BP is all grown up now

If the Tracer is on your list also consider the Suzuki GSX1000GT. It's cheaper and that motor is both fun and bombproof.

Ahhh, then you’re ready for a Vstrom.
did consider the 1000  ,theres no hype around that bike though, even the stormtroopers recommend the 650

with a name like that i already know the insurance will be too much, ergos are more sport than touring, sales guy at snowcity kept trying to push it on me but Im old enough to know better

Just throwing this out there, a buddy recently picked up a used Triumph Tiger. Thing looks, and sounds like a beast, the passenger seat is actually a seat, and it has some decent ground clearance if you actually want to use it for what its supposedly made for. He's done a few longer distance hauls with a girl and gear on the back and had zero complaints.
