What's your reason

Well said.

I'm tossing around the idea of just buying a scrap / project bike to tinker with in the meantime.

Nothing overly complicated. Just something to keep in the garage and muck around with when I find some time.
I’ve got an 82 Suzuki gr650 tempter that was running when I put it away, will need some work likely as it’s been 10yrs ago.

If you’re interested let me know

but i no longer work from home and riding to and from work makes the commute tolerable, even with the traffic and all that nonsense. i'd still rather be on a bike than the TTC.
This is basically me.

In Mexico City the part that I enjoyed the most in the day was my 40min commute in my motorcycle. I cleared my mind of everything besides riding

Riding on the 401 to/from work literally killed the joy of riding for me.

I sold my bike after that, and in 10 years since I commuted exactly 1 day to/from work on the 401.

Never again.

You should consider buying a couple of dirt bikes and riding around the trails with your kids when they're able to ride. Trailer it to different places and make it a family thing. Fun way to connect with them and keep riding as well.
That was our deal. I had a cottage with tons of sand and gravel trails. My kids wore out a few mini bikes, I doted along on behind them on my TW200.

To scratch an itch, I’d occasionally ride the TW from Sharbot lake to Markham. Hard to get killed on that thing.
