What's up with my dehumidifier?

I have an old clunker from the 70s or 80s, the kind that worked for decades. Hate the thought of going to the big box and throwing one out every 6 or 8 years from here on.

Current old timer should be easy for this gang. Worked great for years, of course, never a hitch. Now it won't seem to shut off even if it's not making liquid. Thoughts before this meets the scrap bin?

If the refrigerant has leaked out, the core will collect no water, the motor will overheat, the device will shut itself off.

I am also in the market for a small appliances repair person to seal and recharge it.

This one will pull moisture out but then will want to run on after drying the air.

Cycle it by unplugging it for a bit then powering it up and check if the coils are cooling down.
If the compressor runs and it cools the coils it is a switching problem otherwise it would be a faulty compressor or low refrigerant.
Check around on the inside panels for a schematic, the older gear is usually good for that.

Fwiw, I run dehumidifiers on timers not humidistats. Most have shite logic and turn on compressor every few minutes when checking humidity. Plug your humidifier into a smart plug (or old-school dumb timer), set it to run for 2-8 hours depending on what it needs to do and keep using it for decades longer.
