As the the title says, what is my bike worth?
2003 Suzuki vstrom 1000
92,000 kms
top box and side bags
many farkles
small amount of cosmetic road rash from tipover 10 years ago
Bike works really well but is too powerful for my kids who are just learning to ride and no abs
Thanks

pics?
but really there is no way to know how much its worth on here unless you bring it to a machianic that can do tests on the engine

My '02 Vstrom 1000 with 35K km would fetch $2500 for trade in value but only after I replace my clutch basket....estimated to cost $650.

So, less than $2K, as is.

Makes no sense to sell after having the work clutch work done plus value adjustment, EFI sync, etc.

Run her into he ground. Great bike but sadly you would be lucky to get $800 with the K and the year AND damage. The bike is not too powerful to learn but it depends on the student. ABS is irrelevant.

Thanks for the input. I'm torn about selling or keeping it. I'm certain it would reliably run to California as is
i just want a less powerful bike with abs for the kids to learn on. I think abs is very important.

Post it in the Canadian classifieds of stromtrooper and advrider an you should get some interest. Instead of asking here, ask on Stromtrooper where you can get info from owners of the same bike, or browse the online classifieds of craigslist, kijiji and autotrader in a month or two once more bikes are for sale.
When you say many farkles - that doesn't tell us much. You might get good money for them parting them out, because so many people are always looking for accessories for these bikes. Anyone who is looking for a DL1000 would know that it is easily capable of crossing 200,000km so your bike should get much more than some of the amounts quoted here, if it was maintained properly and the accessories are worth something. I had one that was crashed and insurance gave me $7000 for a 2006 model with 88,000km on it. A good quality top box, side bags and racks is over $1000 alone.

Your bike is easy to sell if it is priced right and you are selling in the spring, because it has a great reputation for reliability. Be wary of opinions on the internet.

Shane - the reality is that whether they are familiar with the bike or not, not too many people want to buy something with this kind of mileage. It may be in good shape with lots of options but it has not much resale value in this market. Legit or not, this is how majority of people grade the value of used vehicles - mileage, year, condition. What insurance pays out is a whole different story as well.

I was looking at V-Stroms before I decided to go with the VFR and I could've bought a 2003-4 model with 1/4 of the mileage for $2,500-3000. So unfortunately for the OP, I don't believe he will get much for it.

As people said, parting it out may be worth it if he's got time and patience. ... Or keep it and ride it until it dies.

US retail 4k,trade in $2600,better to get what you can as stated above people are scared of the age and milage.

I agree with everything you wrote. If it was my bike I would probably sell the accessories and then sell the bike as close to stock as possible. Also finding a replacement fairing for the one with a bit of rash can make the bike much easier to sell for more money. Maybe.

On a side note - I went to Clarkson High School many moons ago:) The pizza place near there - Jopapa's - makes some of the best pies in town!
