What was your next bike after a 250? Thoughts/regrets?

I don't look at a bike purchase as an upgrade. For me it's about what I what. I like bikes that have character. That I can enjoy on the roads less traveled. Doesn't matter if the displacement is 250 or 2300.

A 600 ss is a lot of fun. Will it give you what you want out a motorcycle? Only you can decide.

I would see about getting a 94-97 VFR750 or 99-07 VFR800. I know a few if your willing to travel outside of the GTA that are under 50k and dirt cheap.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Definitely helps, but it seems hard to know what I want without being able to ride any of these bikes (missed the demo days--doh!).

Incidentally, just passed my M test. Woot!

went from a 450 nighthawk to a 1100 virago to a 750 vfr to a 1000 ninja to a 650 klr to a 650 v-strom.

the 1100 virago was not the right choice, because I like the look of cruisers more than actually riding them.

the vfr 750 was a great bike with just the right amount of power - uncomfortable for longer riding.

the ninja 1000 was a great bike with just the right amount of power - too many speeding tickets.

the klr650 was a fun bike and a great city commuter, but it was gutless on the highway or moving at speed. It was also very weak and soft for 2up riding.

the v-strom 650 does it all for me in spades.

I'm with TD for the bike and cars and home and my insurance quote for the busa was 2500 a year. The woman told me to get another quote in 5 years when I turn 30 and it will go down to 1200 a year which is what I'm paying for the 600.

I would go with the SV650. It's overall a bulletproof ride that's very affordable and convenient in every way you look at it. I miss mine and have been thinking about going back.

well I went from my 2012 ninja 250 last year to a 2013 GSXR 600 love the power but as a SS its not as comfy as the 250 but I knew that ill get my need for speed outta me then buy something else...

Congrats on passing the test, it's an awesome feeling I know.

I had a 250 and after riding it for a week I just wanted to pick it up and throw it off a bridge. Felt too weak and too small for "me". Go with what "you" feel is right for "you". Demo days sound amazing, I didn't even know about them. I sold the 250 asap at an acceptable loss and picked up an 82 'zuki gs750 café. Keeping this awesome chick magnet and cool factor and now looking for a bigger sport bike than the 250...

Best of luck on your upgrade

I am on a 125 & dying to go bigger wish i had of looked in on this forum before buying the bike(lots of you will out grow it in a week/month) but i am out riding & love it.Not sure what my next move will be.

I started on a Hyosung gv250 & was very happy with it until a buddy let me ride his Nomad 1500 One day. Within a week I bought a Vstar 1100 classic and I haven't looked back. I only had about 4 months of riding under me so it was probably not a smart move but I treated the extra power with respect and it's given me no trouble. I do miss the maneuverability of the 250 though.

I went from a Ninja 250 to a Ninja 650. Same nimble-ness... if not more. I find the 650 a bigger, heavier version of the 250. Fun bike, you won't regret it.

250 -> 400 (took a break for many years) -> 650 -> 1300 -> 675:-) I think I found my sweet spot. Light bike with decent torque, and reasonable fuel economy

another vote for SV650, FZ6R, Kawi 650.

There are 250s and 250s, the Kawasaki 250/300 has almost 50% more HP than the other 250s from Honda, Suzuki or Hyosung.

...(lots of you will out grow it in a week/month) QUOTE]

With all due respect, that is not a fact; it's an opinion. I owned a 125 and rode it for two seasons. My next bike was a 250 zzr. Again, rode that for two seasons. I recently purchased a 750 Honda Shadow. I move up to a bigger motorcycle when I feel ready. There are people who will ride the 125 for many years. I think it depends on what kind of rider you are, and what kind of riding you do. It's a great bike!

+1 For going to as many demo days as you can, I unfortunately didn't and chose an R6 as my first bike.. yeah I know alot of people will say wow that's a lot for a first bike. For me its not I love it great power and speed fun in the corners scary as **** on the highway lol, mind you I just got my M2 and was testing in on the 400 here in Barrie. Good luck on finding your next bike.

gsxr 600.
I dont regretting getting a bigger bike, but if I tried other bikes, this one wouldn't have been my first choice. I'm definitely more cautious with this one, or maybe... more scared. Sometimes I feel like I stopped learning new things because I stopped challenging myself due to fear.
Maybe I just need to get proper leathers and go down once.
Yeah.
