What kind of harley is this?

It's a pre-2004 Sportster "C" custom. 1993 - 2003. It's a solid mount engine. Tho oil tank is the give away. 2004 and newer, the oil tank is updated with flush filler cap.

After that it's anybody's guess. 1200 or 883. The chrome swing arm and drive belt cover are after market along with flush mount signal indicators and foot pegs and controls, tilt back plate mount, solo seat etc.

Young = chicks

1200 = okay

;)

Never fond of the sportsters personally. Much prefer the look of a 55 panhead

my buddy had an old solid mount punched out, it would stand the front up in third gear, mean machine. and a crazy bastard riding it

Easy to do. A weekend in the garage changing cams, heads and exhaust. And pistons if you really want that extra 10 per cent. The sportster engine is really ball-gagged from the factory...

Any bike that can stand the suspension to the top of the travel in 3rd gear is fearsome!!!!

"Drag bars ..."

Still look like 6 inch rise.

"883..."

chick bike

serious question, why do the Harley "dudes" consider this a "chick" bike. I don't ride a harley or really like Harley's but i have always liked the look of the sportster.

I imagine because it's the smallest of the H-D lineup. Bigger is better yanno, my genitals told me.

Well if only they made the iron for 1200, people would buy it.

It's not just a HD thing. Within any group of specific brands, there are riders that will look down their noses or dis a style or model. The "big twin" Harley's are viewed by some as the "real riders" model line. The FXR and Dyna line became the big boy bikes and the sporter was regulated to entry level/girls bikes. Most old school HD riders will have a fond stories to tell about their old sporty and some even keep one for putting around.

The "chick" bike of HD is actually the Delux. Classic lines, plush soft tail, low center of gravity. The Sporter's riding characteristics actually make it a deterent for a lot of female riders. They don't cruise very well on the highway, and they don't handle as well as some of the bigger bikes in slow speed manuvres such as intersections and parking lots. You'll hear tonnes of stories of a hubby getting a Sporty for his wife only to return it because she hated it. Too fast, too scary, hard to handle etc. They go back and trade it in for a soft tail and then the testimony follows of how much better a "big twin" handles over the sporty.

I think it's just become a naive statement that Sportsters are chick bikes. When in reality, any bike is a chicks bike now.

I like the sportsters look, but the small fuel tank makes it an afternoon ride only. I cant imagine touring on it, would be stopping a little over every hour to fill up.
