He also needs to learn about digital photography and geotagging. As in, you don't need to have it turned on, saved with that data, or be forced to do a capture from a phone. LOL
I believe not taking a photography course will get him killed this year. Death by selfie.

Dude he rode DIRT BIKES, with his riding experience clearly he should get a turbo busa as his first street bike.

I get the guy seems a bit troll like and immature but you guys seriously need to reconsider the skill it takes to ride a dirt bike as apposed to riding around on the street. They're two different animals but the control you need to ride a dirt bike is far above and beyond what you'd ever learn riding on the street at anything less than reckless and death wish worthy.

He hasn't said what his experience is on dirt bikes so this may not help him but i guarantee a 14 year old kid that's been riding mx his whole life would have 10x the bike control over some guy that thought bikes were a cool/cheap mode of transportation to commute to work with.

As someone who started on a ZX9 at 16 with 8 years dirt experience prior, no crashes, no tickets, this stuff happens. You will not die just because you bought a 600ss which by the way feels like riding a 125 in the dirt, all noise no scary power.

Op, ride the bike for a bit then decide on some upgrades. A fender eliminator that keeps the stock plate location and signals is a fine idea. A different windscreen to help deflect the air over your head will help with wind noise. A slipon makes the bike sound good but does little for hp gains. SS brake lines will help with the feel of the brakes and get a bit more power out of them. Gearing may also help. Good luck, don't do anything dumb and you'll enjoy the bike. Stay away from heavily populated areas too so you can enjoy the ride not the traffic.

Ps, listen to everyone saying good gear.

Agreed. Most people seriously underestimate the skill required to become fast in the woods. I'd love to see some of these guys try to keep up in the trails. Having said that, I'm sure many of the same people would be nothing but tail lights to me at TMP.

Yeah, I'm pretty fast in the woods, done a fair bit of racing with Off-road Ontario, favourite one every year is the Corduroy. Have never been on a road course, or been to racer5 etc. I'm on the hunt for a new bike right now, a track school might be in order this year.

Rode/Raced dirt for many years. Last dirtbike was a full race-prepped CR500R that I raced in open-class. I think I could do ok in the woods still. That said, a track course for a new rider on a SS is a great benefit.
 
No doubt, I've been riding all my life, but I'd learn a ton of stuff in racer5 or similar I'm sure.

This. I wasn't trying to steer the thread in the direction it has gone. What I should have said was, the best money you can spend on making your bike go faster would be track school.
 
Mods I did after buying the bike during winter:

Powder coated wheels, and rearsets. Bought/installed Pazzo levers, Rizoma lux grips, cut frame sliders, SS brake lines (with color that matched grips/pc wheels <_<)

Following the "whoospies" you all know me for:

Braking Batfly rotors, gold Rs from the 2010 GSXR1000 SE

I did Total Control level 1 last year and am doing the Racer5 intro package this year. My goal is to do at least one instructional course per year...it's always good to have a professional point out what you're doing wrong when you can go 0-200 in 8 seconds...then you can go 200+ safer and only have to worry about not getting tickets :cool:
 
I see alot of you guys recommending different courses for him. Is there any courses that would help a newbie 250 rider? I did the RTI M2 Safety Course, but more instructional courses wouldn't help.

and MM, I suggest framer sliders, exhaust and fender eliminator.
 
Exhaust is restrictive of the air to reduce the noise decibels, you can get mild power and gas mileage gains from replacing it (depending on the bike model)

Basically, aesthetics projectors w/ halo angel/devil eyes, integrated tail light, flush mounted front indicators, slip-on exhaust, shaved seat, lowered ride height and custom decals, aftermarket rims, hand guards or paintjob. (Unicorns are the shiznit +50hp) Performance wise would be headers and exhaust, turbo, bore kit, re-jett better forks/shocks, engine tune, meatier & slick tires.
