Warning. OPP Bait and switch tactics on the 401

I went on a trip (in my car) to Ottawa this weekend.
I saw a lot of OPP stationary radar points. No big change.

But coming home, it was raining, and I guess they did not want to, or could not have stationary radar units.
So they had un-marked, black SUV's running up and down the 401 trying to get people to pass them so they can pace them and get them for speeding.

I came up to such an unmarked OPP unit. He was trying to get people to pass him by employing many different sneaky plays.

First he would run in the fast lane with cars in the slow lane. He was at about 130 to 140 kph.
Then when there was a point when there were no cars in the slow lane, he would boost the speeds up to close to 150.
At wich point he would slow down and pull to the slow lanes, waiting for people to pass him.

When nobody passed him, he tried a different way.
He would get up over 140 and slow down a few times for no reason. Still in the fast lane, with cars beside in the slow lane.
This time he would get to a point where there were no cars in the slow lane, and get the speeds up close to 150.
Then when we came up to slow cars in the slow lane, he would slow down at the end of the slow cars and wait for all the followers to pass him.

He was really pissing me off.
I tired to get some people to fall for his stupidity, Just to get rid of him.

Finally when the 401 opened up to 3 lanes in Kingston, some idiot came on at high speeds and crossed very close in front of him when he entered the fast lane.

This cop was trying to catch a fish all the way from Brockville.

I saw many more of the same things going on all the way home.

So keep an eye out for un-marked SUV OPP's.

TAX DOLLARS AT WORK YEA!!!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up.

yuup.....the other tactic they use is to have an OPP cruiser drive down the highway and then at a certain point turn off....everyone breathes a sigh of relief and guns it....over the next crest is 3 cruisers sitting in the middle divider gunning with the radar.

on the other hand i've had unmarked OPP cruisers warn ppl not to pass....

Saw him coming up, i'm doing 110, hes doing about 120, black SUV, looks fishy so i keep my nose clean...he passes me, switches to the right lane and the guy following tries to gun it and pass the SUV....next thing u know the SUV is lit up like a Christmas tree right before the car passes him. Car slows down and paces the SUV, around the corner is a radar trap...

go figure..

Should call 911 and say someone is driving erratically and high speeds on the highway. This is dangerous.

cops are regular human beings like us, some are nice, some are penises
long story short, dont do anything wrong, and you wont worry about any un-marked opp suvs or speed traps

Good catch Low Rider as its an everyday occurance on the 407. The SUV catches more than the unmarked cars as no one suspects its an undercover. Now they have just about every vehicle covered as they also have the dark unmarked pickups with caps on them as well

Friday I saw the first OPP bike of the season with a car pulled over at Mississauga road. No doubt he was sitting on the high side of the hill on the lil driveway just before the exit and whammo. They make a fortune off that one location alone.

I travel the 407 everyday and its rare that you dont see one hiding on the on ramps or rolling radar. Some days its like Nascar the way the marked cruiser acts like a pace car with 2 miles of cars stuck behind him dared to pass.

I think the 407 charges should be cheaper if they take into account the revenue the OPP make off it.
It leaves no doubt they are all about revenue when the OPP and 407 share the same office on Steeles. The only difference between the bandits is one carries a gun :thebirdman:

This is our police fighting the war against crime with our tax dollars. They go after the easiest targets without risk to themselves. :disgust:: :angryfire:

This is very interesting! I was on the 407 heading W/B and i saw a marked OPP Tahoe do something similar

he would pretend to to use the exit then he'd suddenly use the shoulder/island and merge back onto the highway (most people just gun it, when cruisers exit the highway)

he did this for almost every exit all the way from about 404 to 27 (where he actually exited)

there were plenty of dumb drivers accelerating towards him... when they were right beside him, and saw POLICE decals, they slam on their brakes

Any time I see a dark large SUV I slow up a tad. Watch for extra antennas and see what wheels he's using. Then I decide if it's a cop or not.
Luckily, I make sure I'm not the fastest person on the road. What I do is find myself a rabbit. Someone that is doing just slightly more than you and is likely to get attention. I let them get about 300-500m ahead and then I will pace them. They suck the cops in and you smile when you pass them pulled over.
Worked well for me in Quebec after I used this on a Mitsubishi that had been trying to get me to race.

Imagine if some of that effort put into creative taxation got put into fighting crime

Saw a black Challenger in Mississauga a couple of days ago. I passed him going north on Kennedy fairly close Courtney Park, but I was doing barely 10 over the limit. Stopped at the intersection, he pulls up beside me - it's a completely unmarked cop car. Interesting thing is that he had real alloy wheels, not those black ones with silver caps.

23 SUV's, marked and unmarked cruisers and paddy wagon sitting at Douglas Creek Estates in Caledonia today wasting your tax dollars.

I'm probably more critical of police than most people but I don't understand why a parked fleet is a waste of my money. They can't drive their whole fleet 24/7, if that was the implication.

Perhaps the OP's SUV's pilot was conflicted between getting back to base for shift change and finishing his/her reports on their computer (it's hard to concentrate and data entry efficiently with one hand at speed, ya know) and their speed was erratic because of that.:p

Challenger or Charger??

You sure it wasn't a cop driving home after work? From time to time, I've seen cops driving everything from Ford Escorts, to Mazda 3s wearing their uniform.

I don't see how a Challenger would make a good cop car.

6th anniversary of the DCE native land claim occupation. There was a rumor that an anniversary celebration was being planned. They were attempting prevent having to call the homicide unit or the coroner. Your Government hard at sleep!

No, absolutely not.
I did actually see this SUV pull over a car he had baited and switched.
