Very close call

Spirited boondock pleasure rides are to urban commuting what MotoGP is to the IOM.

My commute is almost the only time I have on my motorcycle. In the weekends I often take my road bicycle out or take my family to bike trails/picnics/etc. I can't justify owning a motorcycle given the insurance costs for riding a few weekends per year. My car (winter beater used to haul my a** to the GO Station) is off insurance during the summer months.

I only ride to work one or two days a week. I much prefer getting out of the city on weekends and going for a good boot when I get the opportunity. Similarly to Alex San, sometimes riding to work is the only chance I get to ride for the week. I didn't buy a motorcycle just to look at... Although she is Purdy ;)

and I don't like sportsters ...whats your point? Some people have little choice on were they reside man.

I was only talking of myself that it would not be worth it to ride if everyday had a panic stop not exactly a hornets nest opinion, I don't like sport bikes just to keep the opinions even...whats your point?

My point is that people ride were they live.

Saw another doozer today two cars at stop lights short cut with a illegal U turn to get at opposite side gas station, a little scooter in proper lane just escaped getting hit. Some town is missing 2 more villiage idiots on the loose.

OK this is open to anyone, if you have a near death, near crash" with only a fraction second left every single day " with brakes maxed out would you honestly continue to ride, now I don't mean the everyday avoidance of bad drivers that is routine and second nature .

From reading some posts extreme panic stops are routine in Toronto, so everyday after day, you go through extreme panic stops? are is this a bit much?

I think you are confusing what rob is saying with it being an everyday occurrence. Its happens everyday in the city not everyday to each rider.

ok, then was confused, of course I beleive that, actually I just saw one a few minuts ago with a scooter avoiding two car U turn.

thanks

When I said that it was an almost everyday occurrence I was actually saying that it happens to me that frequently. Experience and foresight keep it from being "with only a fraction second left every single day with brakes maxed out", where an inexperienced rider would likely be road pizza. I honestly feel sorry for riders who start out new, these days, who have nowhere handy to go that isn't packed with a thousand cars.

I have seen all your videos your like a trouble magnate. Plus when I drive downtown TO its always full of surprises so i'm not surprised. I dont think i would be tempted to take my bike downtown. I will stick to country roads.

You'd have to ride in Toronto regularly to understand. Vancouver sucks but is a walk in the park compared to here.

Travel the country from coast to coast. Accidents waiting to happen everywhere. Toronto isn't special. In fact I'd say Montreal takes the cake.

But there are distracted drivers, idiot drivers, novice drivers everywhere.

Experience helps you spot it sooner or notice the conditions that make things ripe for something but, there is always those occasions out of the blue when you least expect it.

Funny, I've at least found Montreal drivers to be predictable.

Toronto is worse than any major city in Canada. Period. Montreal is fast but they all are. Vancouver and area is also worse than Montreal. Idiots everywhere I agree but more so here and van for major cities.

Worst drivers are in the Middle East. Nicknamed "The wacky races". Makes most of the stupid cagers here look like experts. Well, luckily enough we are not in the Middle East. We survive by using our wits and assuming the worst will happen. Hopefully. we all will survive with the near misses.

That was what wanted to express some things we will not expect and thats when we hope a guardian angel is watching over us...or at least good brakes.

For example the scooter that I saw dodge 2 cars, who is going to expect a car literally go over some sidewalk and U turn just to buy gas, crap happens does not matter if your new or pro.

great report and will make us all keep our eyes open for wreckless cagers.

Friday afternoon, around 3.30 on Keele, just south of St. Clair. Turning left into the Home Depot lot, when I checked my mirror to make sure all was good behind.

Needless to say, a complete **** in a garbage truck had his head buried in his lap texting or surfing the web. I know he was not going to stop or come close to it, so I immediately pulled away. Luckily no car in front of me.

Needless to say, he got a volley of abuse at the lights, but it shook me to know that if I didn't check my mirror, I would be dead. No ifs or buts, dead.
