Very close call

Used to be "Busa Busa Busa"

now it's "Sportser Sportster Sportster"

Today I was riding behind a pickup truck with about 3 bike lengths in front of me, doing about 60-70, when right after crossing an intersection, without slowing down or signaling, the truck aggressively swerves to the right changing the lane, and I saw with horror that the traffic was stopped completely in front of me. I saw now what SS brakes can do, I pulled 2 stoppies and finally was able to swerve to the right narrowly avoiding the car in front. I thank my lucky stars...that was a close one...

We can do without the personal sniping and insults people.

In the Toronto area, especially in suburbs like Brampton where I live, the near miss is an almost daily occurrence. It's the experienced riders who come home, rather than being scraped up from under some passenger vehicle. In Brampton it's no longer people who don't see you, who are the main problem, it's the ones who take advantage of any 2 car length gap in traffic to dart out from side streets or parking lots, forcing through traffic to panic brake and avoid hitting them. These actions are very much conscious decisions, rather than the usual 'Sorry, didn't see you' type of incident.

Then you have the kids, who think it's funny to put the life of someone else in danger. These are the less common issues and I've commented on one such, recently, in another thread. A turd in a slammed, smoked windowed, and fart pipe equipped car thought it would be fun to pace me off the light, when there was a transport truck parked a short distance up in the curb lane. A little judicious use of the loud handle took care of that situation, but not the mindset that created it.

It's also becoming more and more common in the downtown core of Toronto, largely due to the idiocy of this city's 'planners' in closing or limiting access on multiple major throughways, simultaneously. Drivers' tempers are on a hair trigger and stupid/dangerous decisions are also a daily issue.

Everything in bold here happens to be what I was stating, sans the personal snippets. Thank you Rob and my apologies, but some people just don't understand how truly horrendous the city is to ride in. I'm in the midst of it almost every day, rain or shine. It is quite taxing, having to deal with these horrid drivers..

Almost died on the 406 today, that was fun. Lady in a minivan just drifts into the far left lane as I'm passing her.... halfway in my lane and I'm right beside her while going around a curve, so awesome!

I honestly don't see the point of riding in conditions you have stated? I love riding as much as the next guy but daily panic stops that I could not handle, sure the fairly close calls but everyday nah my nerves would be shot, and Vancouver is not exactly Mayberry usa...

If we could kick all the stupids out of Toronto we would. Sadly that's not an option so it's ride in it. Speaking of sportsters there goes my neighbors with drag pipes now. Oh so fast

I also live in Brampton and am a pretty new rider with a brand new bike. We not only experience the "care not" attitude of the cagers, but also the drivers pulling insurance scams that decide to stop suddenly for no reason after pulling away from lights and stop signs in hopes that someone will rear end them and pay $$$ instead of going through insurance... Not to mention my commute to work is on the wonderful 410 on which I regularly have to come to a complete stop from 100-ish km an hour in the passing lane due to absolutely nothing on the rare occasions that the traffic is not bumper to bumper with morons weaving lane to lane for pole position...

Point is, I'm always on alert, I never assume anyone sees me (you can't hear me cause my FZ6R is far to stealthy for my personal safety - need louder exhaust asap), and the evasive maneuvers and emergency (I try not to "panic") stops I that learned in my course are my only friends. Unfortunately, where I live, I get to practice them more than I care to. If I want to ride, I have to deal. :/

Everyone ride safe, no matter what you ride. :)

Anyone who commutes in this city on a motorcycle during rush hour is crazy in my opinion.
