Tow truck wars are heating up.

Cops charged a bunch of people today. There seems to be a few things in common with most of them. In what should be no surprise at this point "Police noted that nearly half of the 18 accused were already on some form of judicial release at the time of their arrest."

Oh boy.... How do I comment without getting banned from the site...........

That's right, if you have nothing nice to say..... don't say anything at all. Even if it might be 100% true.

Name sounds persian, or turkish?

Aha.
So it's like a new version of the Uber sticker on the windows.

I think it's been common knowledge for many years, decades even, that the tow truck industry around the GTA is crooked and involved in intimidation, shootings, killing of several, arson, staged accidents, extortion type fees, collision repair scams and fake post accident treatment.

There is a complex web of deceit and collusion that involves thousands of people, not just these 20 or so from Brampton.

When my daughter was in an accident the ER physician asked her if she needed a referral to a physio / OT clinic and he named it. We declined. The next day we received a call from the same clinic he mentioned asking if we wanted to set up an appointment. This means an attending staff physician at a local hospital, a guy making half a million bucks a year as an OHIP paid doctor, had a financial interest in this clinic or was receiving a referral fee for passing on confidential patient info to drum up business.

At the tow truck yard where the van was brought we were asked if we needed a referral to a lawyer to assist us and also a referral to a physio place for medical treatment. Another group on the take.

A week later we received a letter from a lawyer representing the 2 people in the car that veered across 4 lanes of traffic and hit our van head on. The "victims" were going to sue us for injuries, pain and suffering yada yada yada. My insurance company stated that they received letters from the same lawyer all the time and he was well known in the industry. The driver pleaded guilty to distracted driving at a later date and we heard nothing further about the lawsuit.

So, there are systemic issues in this "industry" that involve thousands of people pumping the system for money and this helps to explain high insurance rates we suffer from. The 20 arrested are a drop in the bucket. Watch the prosecution process on this. It will drag on for years and nothing substantial will comes from it.

You forgot using encrypted police radios stolen from departments by cops then sold to tow truck operators.......who were on consignment getting payments from the operators as well.

Apparently there is a way to use two SDR's and processing to listen to the digital radios. IIRC some departments use actual authentication for each radio so it shouldn't work for those departments. Many were just doing security through obscurity with spread spectrum tricks so a single normal radio gets nothing useful.
