Took My Bike From Storage; It's Damaged

I'm sure it's stock, and if it wasn't, why didn't it melt the entire Summer last year when I rode it? These guys started another bike in front of mine I bet, one of those with the muffler sticking out high from under the seat. Now I can't prove it was them. The fact that these guys melted my headlight and didn't tell me leaves a bad taste in my mouth. They kept quiet.

@ RELAX: How much will the entire assembly cost me? if it's more than $200 I will just leave it the way it is.

They may not have seen it either. If I were them, I would be taking videos in and out too so that if people blamed damage on me, I had something to show them.

A headlight assembly is normally way more than $200. I would expect close to $1000 for OEM assemblies.

UPDATE: 07/02/14- The cause of the damage has been discovered. See post #18 in this thread! Here is another photo of the damage. Anyone else had this happen to your TR650?

Bingo! It now makes sense. I asked them to fix an ongoing electrical problem right before they took it out of storage. I bet they replicated the screw-up done on another customer at another bike shop on Relax's link. Look at the melting spot, it's identical as mine, looks like a spray-paint blemish.

Seems weird that you are putting the blame on them but are totally fine with the damage to the point that you are willing to ride with it like this.

I know that you do not have proof of the bikes condition prior to storage but I would at least see what they have to say about it.

Or else this thread it pointless.
 
Reads to me like the burden of proof is on the OP before making an accusation against the storage company. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like such proof exists.

I would think that they would protect themselves in the event of any claims on removal. Maybe they take photos on arrival. If it went in clean, then you have something.
 
Tough to prove it was them without being certain of before/after. I had a VW Tiguans door handle break off, took it to the dealer to get replaced, I saw the technician take the whole door off and lay it on a table. Took them a few hours so I went away... Came back, picked the car up and drove home, when I reached home I saw a dent on the door, up high, in the middle, like it was placed on something.

Went back to the dealer, manager came out, said it could have happened anywhere, and not their problem without proof and walked away.

Once got a chip in the previous Golf, found a good window place in sauga that said they will fill it for free. The tech drove it into the garage, and backed it out later when I came back out of the waiting room, When I got home, the rear bumper was all scuffed, like it hit a dumpster, which was outside the Garage. Again, no proof, so SIL. Lesson, always look before and after, take pictures.

Had a similar experience with my then-owned Rabbit.
Dropped it off at a body shop to fix a parking lot ding on one door.
It was fixed, but when I picked up the car there was a dent in the opposite door!
The body shop's reply was, "It must have been there before and you did not notice".
Ha! the car was regularly hand-washed by me and I would not have noticed??!!

Long story short, always do a "before" and "after" just like the car rental guys.

I know that my story is not a consolation and that in hindsight we can always be wise!

I don't know which model it is, but the 2011 CBR125R has surprisingly dirt cheap parts, and even on that thing a headlight was a lot more than $200. Best to call a dealer or look it up online. If it were me, I'd still contact the storage facility and see what they say. Sure, maybe they'll deny it, but then again, they may surprise you. But the longer you wait, the less likely they'll want to take the blame.

They may have access to parts at wholesale price too. In the absence of proof, their contribution may be helping him save some money on a new light.

No, it will be a waste of time. The damage should had been reported on the spot when they gave it to me. It would be like me returning to a convenience store with the change of a $100 bill saying that when I got home I found out they short-changed me $40 bucks. Nobody will buy that. I will just ride with the spot like that, it cannot be seen unless I tell you and you walk to within 10-ft of it. Lesson learned for all of you that store bikes.
 
I'm sure they'd rather absorb the $100 cost to them, than to lose a customer and have their reputation tarnished. Tell them, most good dealers would take your word for it and make it right. Unless they're terrible. What place is it?
