To hell with modulated headlights.....these really work and low cost solution to viz

Because they want to be seen just as the guys that weave coming up to a stop and the guys that wear hi-viz - and schoolbuses, and fire trucks and cops and and and.

Single headlights get lost in the background - a bit of flickering makes it standout - same reason a train uses a modulator AND a triangle patter.
 
^^ I've been riding since before you were in diapers, and I've never been rear-ended, ridden into somebody, worn a construction vest, or a back protector over a t-shirt like some homo- all with regular non-flashing, not annoying as f*ck to other motorists headlights.

It's up to you, the rider, to have better situational awareness and avoid situations that will put you in harms way.

My bike got rear-ended in September 2007 while stopped/trapped trying to make left turn in rush hour traffic. I had time to get off the brakes before POW! The accident cracked the frame and wrote the bike off, and I had assorted aches and pains for a couple of days. I have since changed my riding habits to avoid (mostly) left turns where there are no dedicated turn lanes, but I also added hiviz gear and helmet to my wardrobe, and have all sorts of additional lights on the rear of the bike now.

Having said that, I don't see myself adding a modulator to the front end, but I do practice the SMIDSY when I see inattentive drivers in front of me.

And you'll still get pasted by some moron if you don't rely on yourself to be aware of what's going on and give yourself an out.

On the "lots of lights on the front end" thing. Keep in mind that .. agh, nevermind, nothing anyone writes will convince the "believers" anyone that these things are dumb. It's like trying to tell someone that using car tires on a motorcycle is dumb.

a) that makes you an octogenerian...so how's the knees grandpaw

b) I have 45 years on a mcycle with no accidents either and I ride 9 months here and 3 months in Australia on the opposite side of the road....so stuff the "Im so good " act .:rolleyes:

For $16 I make myself a bit more visible at dusk and a bit more attention catching in the daytime.
If you don't have anything to contribute there are other threads needing the benefit of your "wisdom"

I ride at night, in all weathers and all year - I could care less if it "annoys you". You probably cried when they brought in mandatory headlights on.

You should probably read up on 'inattentional blindness', and discover for yourself how unsafe your fancy $16 blinking light is. When motorists are fixated on your stupid blinking light, they don't see much else, and can drive right into you. This actually happened when a flight crew became fixated on a blinking console light, and crashed the airliner.

You may not care that it annoys me (or another driver), but you *may* care when you collide head-on with a passenger car.
