TMP Saturday Sept 28!!! WHO'S IN?!

Great weather today and plenty of fun, but the track wasn't in great shape (old oil from cars everywhere, and then a crash left more oil in 4). Kinda crashy in intermediate group, but no serious injuries. We still got 7 sessions in.

TMP is getting more serious about how they run their days. Much better riders' meeting (run by Dave Buckland) and pretty thorough tech (also by Dave).
You ride the wheels off that thing. If you rode something new, prob. Be sub 1:20.

Hahaha. You know what I say: WIN IT OR BIN IT! Or, "You can't win on the first lap, but you damn sure can lose!" haha.

You wanted a new bike next year anyway, go for a lap record or bring it home in pieces, save you having to try and sell it to all the retards on Kijiji.

I'll dig out the visors and get em ready for ya. Remind me on friday plz, text 289-600-9937.

My neighbour was going to throw out some MR12 because he crashed and won't be doing any more days this year (I guess it doesn't keep good over the winter) so I've got a tankfull ready to rip. HOLD ME BACK! Gosh I hope that RSV4 guy is there :D
Are you ok. Noticed you were walking pretty slow. Was that you in t2?

I guess if you cant fix your brakes you might as well try adding horsepower. Should work out well.
Oh man the MR12 was INSANE fun!!! I added 10 percent more fuel to my entire map and removed my O2 sensor/autotune. I could power wheelie down the side straight in 3rd gear which it's never done before, but man is it scary how fast it builds speed! Almost got me in trouble on the brakes a few times, exactly like you said, lol. It also didn't make for better lap times ;)

I just couldn't get my mind around those oil stains on the track. I tried my best to look through the corners, but kept finding myself staring down at the stains and trying to run my lines around them :( They just freaked the crap out of me, and running through the fresh oil laid down in 4 after the rider crashed right in front of me (I think I got it on video but he may have been slightly too far ahead) didn't do anything to quell my fears :(

I was taking the super wide line through 4 to avoid that big dirt patch on the apex but then it totally messed up 5. After the oil was spilt I started just running over the dirt patch with no problems because my wide line was "taken away", and that line worked much better :D

Today was run by TMP. However, as YellowDuck said, Dave Buckland ran both tech and rider's meeting, and it was thorough! He also did it on the previous ran by TMP day about two weeks ago.
Was an excellent riders meeting! I loved how he sent the "expert" group away once they covered the basics, went over a bit more for intermediate and beginner, then sent away the intermediate and went over even more stuff with beginner! Awesome awesome way to do it, very through riders meeting for sure!

Thanks for asking!! I had knee surgery a week ago and it probably wasn't the smartest thing to do a track day today. The first or second session after lunch on turn 6 (the sharp left hander) my left knee totally gave out and I almost fell off the bike :( If I had a tail cam pointing forward, or my undertail cam, it woulda made for some funny video for sure :( My doctor gave me some meds I was supposed to take with breakfast (to keep the swelling in my knee down) but I totally forgot, so by lunch time I was limping around on it. I didn't run the last few sessions of the day because of it :(

What do you mean "was that me in T2"? I didn't crash or run off all day today, and other than a massive slide through turn 4 my first first lap or two of the day, no even scary moments, none!! I think after 6 track days my Pirelli Superbike Pro slick is finally "done". It still has lots of tread left but in the afternoon sessions I noticed when I just cracked the throttle open coming out of turn 6 (to start a wheelie while leaned over hard then smoothly straighten it out with the front tire a few inches in the air all the way to the chicane) it started to step out pretty bad. It started doing it coming out of 9 as well (my least favourite corner). I'll probably throw a set of Q3's on for the three track day long weekend (Oct 12, 13, 14) (I will be running the 12th or 14th) if the weather is good, if not I'll call it a year and throw some Q3's on it in the spring along with my new rotors, bearings, etc.

My friend on the half of a orange 09 ZX6R (almost equally as naked as my bike!!! lol) lowsided in turn 9 on the second last session of the day. He started dragging knee and tried to do it at speed through turn 9 and it didn't work out so well. No damage to the bike, himself or his gear so that's good. We haven't been able to get 90 percent of his gopro videos to work :(:

2013_09_28_TMP_with_Robert_corrupted_gopro_video.png

He bought a brand new Hero3 black edition two days ago, 64gb sandisc class 10 microSD, charged it up. Recorded the first three sessions perfectly, but all of the afternoon sessions are messed up. They just play a black screen with no audio, and even running it through the HD video fix software that everyone says fixes that problem, it just loops/repeats the same 3 seconds of video over and over and over :( I SURE hope that video isn't lost, he shaved 10 seconds of his previous best lap time and ran a few laps like that during the day, so we'd like to review them plus see why he crashed (he thinks he was running a little wide and freaked and chopped the throttle and/or grabbed the front brakes causing the front to wash out).

I only took a few pics of my friend and that smokin hot chick on the orange gixxer so I'll get those up, along with my front and rear gopro cams shortly.

I doubt the Pirelli's are "done" after 6 tds. I'm sure they were just cold because you are not running warmers and your pace is way too slow to keep them at oprerating temperature. In for pics of tires.

I get em very melty every session, and was doing the exact same things all day and they just started to slide out under acceleration in one of the afternoon sessions and there after. This was in the middle to the end of the session when it started, so they'd be as hot as they were any other time prior in the day.

Because my knee couldn't be trusted half of my last session was just riding around at an easy pace so I'm sure my tires don't look very impressive, unless you just wanted to see tread depth. I'll try and snap a pic.

Oh good. Someone went down in 2. Then I noticed you were not riding anymore, and walking slow. :). That orange street gixxer went down last session. Hope rider is ok.

Ahhh...finally some time to catch up with the posts :)

Had a good time today, but personally--far from great. 1st session, 2nd lap---I hit the exit perfectly! There's proof---the cone is missing now ;) Apart from destroying the cone, the impact ripped off my front fender, but I didn't crash. If anything ever happens to me, it will be turn 6! That turn is possessed and needs exorcism done on it! All of my crashes or misfortunes are always there. Fun times...not!

The rest of the day was uneventful for me personally, I felt like a bag of potatoes on the left-handers. I arrived to turn 4 shortly after the guy crashed and spilled all the oil, and nearly lost the front---the oil was right at my turn-in point, and I was more occupied looking at the guy laying on the ground than watching for oil, lol... I didn't do the last few sessions because I felt sleep deprived, physically out of shape, and mentally exhausted (maybe from wondering over and over again why on earth I'm so lame in the left turns).

Many thanks to YellowDuck for keeping me company in the pits during the time he wasn't doing his smooth flight around the track; thanks to Hpvchewy for the visors he gave me and also the nice chats with him and his buddy. Gsxr_guy---it was nice seeing you again bud, you were ripping it pretty hard in Expert!

Pretty sure that's the one. Only 3 laps to go. Crappy way to end the day.
Damn, that's the super hot chick I was talking about!! :( That was her mint mint street bike, super sucks! I was helping her set up her iPhone 5 with Harry's Lap Timer just prior to that last session. She let her friend on the 675 in intermediate rip around with it, worked great. Just throw it in your pocket and ride :D

Didn't seem anyone was setting their best lap times today, especially given the great weather!!

No probs man. I'm sure I'll need something from you at some point in the future. It's great wallowing with you in our lap timer depression ;)

For sure, any time if I can help with something!

And yeah...the Great Depression... :( F' it, I'm done for this year! Off to bed now :sleepy1:

Thanks. Turning low 1:21s all day. But I'm killing the street tires, think I'm gonna have to buy warmers and some dots race tires. And start racing again next year. I'm still wondering if I should race my 6 or 750. Any racers please advise me which you would choose to race. Thanks.

The 600 will allow you to run more classes. There is no 750 class so you'd be running superbike or open class against the litre bikes.

For racing next year, I'm assuming you would enter in the Rookie Class. The rules dictate that you can only run a 600cc max bike, which is more than enough at Grand Bend.

You can also run your 600 in Novice 600 Extreme, Superbike and Open. Where as the 750 would limit you to Superbike and Open only. Lots of the other racers run their 600's in all the classes.

Sunny is right, race the 600 and sell the 750.

You will LOVE racing at SOAR, it's the next logical step for a a fast trackday rider, just ask ZX600 or carboncat or omnivore or JayV or Mr.Azim or ScreamingSon or FriendlyFoe or anyone else who progressed from trackdays to racing.

Trust me, you will LOVE it!

Here's a quick pic of my rear I just snapped with my cell. I can probably get better pics in the daytime:

Throw those s-bike pro slicks away!!!!!
I used a set for 5 laps... Not worth wiping out for...
Use B-stones V01's or diablo slicks sc-2 (rear) sc1 front
They will stick like glue and when it slides it warns you. It's worth the money.
$420 ish for a set but cheaper than broken bike and broken body.

I doubt the Pirelli's are "done" after 6 tds. I'm sure they were just cold because you are not running warmers and your pace is way too slow to keep them at oprerating temperature. In for pics of tires.

I think you are wrong on this one Benny. Those tires are strange. At some point, with piles of rubber left on them, they just fall off a cliff and don't work anymore. I had the same experience, and others have also reported it. No doubt an R1 will fry them quicker than a lower hp bike.

I ran Q2s all season this year (9 days!) and they were worlds better. I was thinking of just mounting Q3s for next year but Dave Buckland and Paul MacIntosh sat down with me and worked me over at the end of yesterday and convinced me to go to DOTs or slicks with warmers. :)

You ride the wheels off that thing. If you rode something new, prob. Be sub 1:20.

Thanks for the compliment. I was actually pretty disappointed not to be able to lose any more time yesterday (best laps were low 1:24s, more than a second off what I managed last time out). I have to admit I am pretty curious about what I could pull off on a 600...but not curious enough to sell the Duc...it's just too much fun having a such a weird bike.
