Simple explanation, front is for braking, rear is for traction (mainly) hence the patterns are opposite. Does not apply if you have front wheel drive.

Justbwalked out and looked at my bike,mfront channels in and back channels out. Case close, it's coors light time!

I've never seen a front wheel drive bike. Seen front and back wheel drive and dual rear wheel drive (sidecar with driven wheel) but never FWD only.
