Simple explanation, front is for braking, rear is for traction (mainly) hence the patterns are opposite. Does not apply if you have front wheel drive.
Front wheel drive bikes....next you will say there is electric unicycles......please it's a joke. Do not post links..I know they are out there...breath grasshopper!

I've never seen a front wheel drive bike. Seen front and back wheel drive and dual rear wheel drive (sidecar with driven wheel) but never FWD only.Front wheel drive bikes....next you will say there is electric unicycles......please it's a joke.
