Tire question

So its time for tires already. My question I have heard that my rear will accept a 190/55. Would there be any advantage to this over the 180/55 stock size? Thanks for any input

Is this street or track?Your "turn in" will be a tiny bit easier with the 180.

Wouldn't that be a 190/50 ?

Hate when people go with a wider tire because it looks cooler... Just get what ur bike is suppose to have

It's not a look cool thing. The question was is there any gain to be had using a 190. Thanks though.

Bigger chicken strips. :-P

My Versys mounts a 160 and was all over the road while I was butterfly watching. The 170 on it now slows down my turn in and I can watch what's around me without hitting the gravel.

If I ever planned on tracking the bike, I'd really prefer the 160 back on it.

Stick to oem size for street. Or like I said at ern try scrubs at a fraction of the price.

imo, no point in upsizing.

From my understanding, 1000s use 190 because it has a bigger contact patch. The bigger the contact patch, the more friction/traction provided. This helps with the increased power that the 1000s provide.

On 600s and 750s, getting a 190 in theory would just help you with launching. The offset is more difficulty getting the bike to lean over...not sure if it's noticeable though.

190/55 is going to be taller, steepening fork angle and reducing trail, the fatness of the tire may be negated by these changes just a guess tho, why mess with success?

Yes, longer tire life.

That doesn't make sense.

The bike was designed by professional engineers for 180, and wider will likely upset the balance with the front.

The answer is go for the highest quality 180 you can afford, because a good tire will make a much more relevant difference over 180/190.
A wider tire will have more rolling resistance,

I asked this question before and after much research I stayed with stock size. No real benefits at all to upsize. More expensive too.

Yes, longer tire life.

Pretty sure, it's shorter life as you upsize.
According to Murphy's laws, once you fit a larger than stock size, the tire becomes pointier towards the ground, which results in smaller patch when you ride straight, and shorter life as a result.

OP - you'd be f'ing up with the geometry of the bike, and who wants that!
