Ticket for Plate Not Plainly Visible

TLDR - yes, makes sense. I've done it a few times.

I once bought a muffler for my M3 not realizing how ridiculously loud it was until after I got it installed, and within a week I wanted to reinstall the OEM. Before I was able to, I was leaving the Home Depot on Curity on my way to Warden and thought I'd have less chance bumping into a cop by taking a side road instead of O'Connor.

So I ended up using Cranfield not realizing there was a Police garage on it, and with my luck a cop pulled out right behind me just as I passed. I was feathering the throttle to keep the noise down, but then I hit a stop sign and the exhaust droned loudly as I tried to accelerate as slowly as possible. I was just waiting for his lights to come on, but miraculously they didn't. MAde it all the way to Bermondsey when I hit the second stop sign there, again expecting him to pull me over but he didn't. As we turned onto Bermondsey, he changed lanes and ended up ahead of me. I thought about making the first turn to get off Bermindset but figured he should have pulled me over by now if he cared. Well after passing 2 intersections his lane slowed down and he was behind me again and all of the suddent his lights go on. I half though he was pulling someone else over, but it was me.

He was nice enough, telling me ihe liked the car but it was way too loud. I wanted to ask why he didn't pull me over earlier, but held my tongue. As he gave me the ticket, he said if I get it fixed right away I can show the receipt to the court and they will throw it out. I'm pretty sure I took it to early resolution, but at the same time I recall standing in crowd in the hallway while talking to the prosecutor who said he'd take care of it.

I've also done it for a plate sticker in both Toronto and Mississauga, and those two incidents have their own stories which I can only tell in person if you ask me at a BurgeRR or Go Kart night.
Reminds me of when I had the SP2. Was leaving Newmarket bike night and had a cop roll up behind me like 3km to the highway, at a stop. I upshifted that thing to 4th so fast every time but it was still sooooooo loud. Also figured my tucked plate wasn't going to go over well, even though I always angle them so they can read and run my info while sitting behind me. About 4 stops later he pulls up beside me and I finally glance over, I get the smile, nod and thumbs up. And he hits the lights and blasts off to a call. Whew.

That’s the #ballerlife! Pay to play!

My brother in law got the same ticket but he put in a front plate on his M2.

Cops words were: you guys with your expensive cars really hate that front plate eh?

I’m shocked they’re actually handing out tickets for worn / unreadable plates. See so many of them nowadays, same as the tint so dark you can’t even tell if there’s a plate under there.
We were on Lakeshore under the Gardiner on Saturday in heavy traffic and my wife noted that the plate on the car ahead had zero paint on it.

Then she noticed a cop car to our right and as she did so, he rolled down his window and told us to stay put when traffic started moving. He rolled into our lane, behind the naked plate car and flicked on the lights.

Nice to see them do something.

Yesterday for instance I was driving behind a black Dodge RAM...no plates. Front or back. Just tootling along with no plates. No temp plates, nothing.

Wish I had the balls to do that!

@sburns, what was the outcome? I received the same ticket a couple of weeks ago and also filed for early resolution. Took care of the plates within a couple of days.
Nothing has happened. It's been over a year and nothing. I also did the same thing got new plates right away. I believe the cop said something like if you resolve the plate issue it flags the system and you won't have to go to court. I guess the system doesn't notify you of this either.
Like I said gov website are chitty.
Who's know now that I have put it out there I may get something in the mail...

Be careful driving south of the Mason Dixon. Down there it's assumed that every driver has an outstanding warrant.
